  • We too recently cancelled Sky and they didn't try to persuade us to stay or offer any deals. I did read in another thread where a lot of people were saying that they had stopped offering these deals on the phone but like someone else said if you can hold on you'll probably get something in the post.

Is there any chance of your children coming round ? - our two moaned for a couple of days but now aren't bothered at all.

The Sky operators only have a limited number of specials to offer and if the operator you spoke to has used theirs up then thats it. If you rang another time you may have got a retention offer - seems to just be bad luck/timing I`m afraid.

I am not happy to be cancelling and my kids are absolutely angry as anything with me and cannot quite understand why I have done it. If anyone can help in anyway getting the 12 month half price deal, then can you urgently get in touch asap, as i want to get back into my kids good books

Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.

The kids will learn a lot from this - maybe get them involved in what is happening to you debt-wise (obviously not too much detail). We have just got rid of sky and kids are V upset - but have explained to them about money and that you have to HAVE it to spend it - they will just have to learn to live with it.

We have also agreed as a family to cut back on other things and perhaps look at getting sky back at a later date. They have been OK with that and have enjoyed doing money saving things.

    Hope that helps.

Sorry - I didnt have time to read the whole thread so if someone else has said something similar, just ignore me.

The sudden changes that have happened with savings on other things had already make things uncomfortable, then one of their guinea pigs has just died and now no sky. Normal kids would as you say let it drop after a while but its different for us.

.. I fully understand how children with special needs can take an age to stop going over and over the smallest of change.. but you cannot afford to pander to their problems every time. I ahev the same with my boys.. one of them refused to seep in his room when I painted it yellow... now it needs redoing he wants it yellow because the change would be way too traumatic for him to cope.. you do what you have to do to give them the best you can as their parent.. if that means cutting out a few tv channels so they can have electricity and hot water.. what choice is there?

hey weymuffred. you have come a very long way and are doing remarkably well. i cant offer you any advice re sky, although as others have said it's quite possible that now you have cancelled they will start bombarding you with requests for you to return...... if you can, and it's not too difficult with your children you would be in a far stronger bargaining position to let sky chase you for your custom rather than you approach them first.

you really are doing an amazing job you know. if you have broadband then you ought to be able to access some of these download tv websites or watch online tv - it may provide you with an interim solution and detract attention from problems elsewhere?

Yes worth a shot. Unfortunately i cant watch any football online. With regards to offers, i am really upset at the offer they are doing now and plenty of people are blagging but loyal customers like me are not getting.

Even when we had sky we could only afford the basic package. My husband loves football, but unfortunately we just cant and never could afford the full package. The sky full package is a luxury and unless you have the money to pay for it, it is just one of those things.

As I have previously stated in a post further up, fine not a problem for me I can handle sudden change but unfortunately my kids cant, just saying to them that "it is just one of those things" wont cut it.
I am well aware you cant have what you cant afford thankyou.

    Hi,
I'm a single mum with 2 young kids and we now have the most basic package from Telewest/Virgin/whoever they are now. We no longer have any of the premium channels but still get CBBC, Cbeebies, CITV and my 8yr old son still gets to watch Simpson on C4 at 6pm.

I've explained to mine that sometimes we just have to do things differently and they have accepted it. After a while they stopped even thinking about any of the other premium kids channels.

    Good Luck!
