Groupon £20 for £50 worth of hotel vouchers
Comments
-
I had intended to book an Ibis hotel. It is now not even listed for that area as available on any dates and I know it's not full.
Think as it was just under £50 to start with, it may have been removed whilst everyone cashes in on their vouchers - something's not quite right and I won't be falling for that again!0 -
Anyone mangaged to cancel and get a refund from Groupon??
Tried all day to call them, but lines are busy (so they say) and calls are ended.

Email also sent luci..........but also no reply.
Has anyone tried to book over the phone through Alpharooms using the voucher for an under £50 hotel room/s??
I won't spoil it for you, but if you think £5 is a rip-off for a debit card fee (especially if no payment is needed)..................try booking over the phone.
Ryanair are angels compared to this mob.

Just a thought - is their charge actually legal?
They are offering free booking if you have a solo card. From what I can see on the internet, it is no longer possible to get a solo card as they are being/have been wound down (ie they may already be non-existant, at best they are only usable by a very few existing holders with a late-dated expiry date).
Eu legislation means that credit/debit card fees must be included in the original price or there is an option that anyone can use for free (eg Ryanair's pre-paid mastercard offering).
I'm not 100% certain my facts are right? Anyone know better? Is there anyone with a better understanding of the law than me who can confirm the law on this/explain how to report this to the relevant authorities, if they are being naughty?

Yes, the solo card has been discontinued. I am surprised that Alpharooms can still advertise prices 'booking fee free' being based on this now non-existent(well... winding down) card option. I suspect they will in the very near future change their fee free card option to a different, although just as rare provider; likely electron, pre paid mastercard etc.
As the vouchers so not expire until June, I am going to hold off from booking for several weeks. In a month or so, the majority of these vouchers will be used(or cancelled) and would be foolish of them to have blocked out rooms and increased prices then.0 -
You guys are correct - Solo hasn't been an option for a while.

So it looks like there isn't a free option.

I emailed them with the exact and detailed reason as to why I required a refund and got a response 8 hours later confirming the refund. I'd try again today if I were you because Groupon only refund within 7 days of purchase, which could be today or tomorrow depending on when you bought. Good luck0 -
Groupon T&C's are usually 'refund within 7 working days of receiving your Groupon'.
Given they only got sent out yesterday, you'd be within your time to return it.
I just got another email from Alpharooms saying the following:
Thank you for your booking with alpharooms.com.
We regret that a technical error has occurred for a small number of customers when calculating the Groupon discount for your booking with itinerary number XXXXXX, and the incorrect discount has been applied to your booking.
We apologise wholeheartedly for this error, and we are already working through these refunds to rectify this. Therefore you should see the correct discount refunded to you, and in your account, in 3-5 working days.
We sincerely apologise for this inconvenience and are grateful for your understanding.
Many thanks,
I'll wait and see what happens.....mistakes happen, it's how a business deals with them that counts.
Just checked my credit card statement and I have been refunded £59.58. Hope you have too :j0 -
I emailed last Sunday after being disappointed in the hotel stay I'd seen on alpharooms no longer available at the price I'd seen.
I explained this in the email, and they responded the next day. The refund was credited to my account today, so whilst I was disappointed in alpharooms, groupon have at least stuck to a no-quibble refund.
