    Which one?

    Groupon, Alpha or both?

    Lol.

Groupon have had their problems and admitted it (sunglasses for one), but they have appeared to be very good. No issues at all when requesting refunds and they totally agree about the £5 rip-off and have actually tried (so they say) to get Alpharooms to back-down........alas to no avail.

Still waiting for the free pay option..........probably wait and wait though as they know how advantageous it is for them.

BTW, has anyone tried to book over the phone with Alpharooms using the voucher code to avoid the fee?? You will be amazed at what they ask for - very consumer friendly.... NOT.

I am going to take out a pre paid mastercard and take the gamble. I hope in the near future they will except this card, and if so the vouchers (I purchased 6) will offer me good value.

If you go through quidco and take out the kalixa prepaid mastercard, they pay you £8 so you can actually make a small profit as the fee is only £4.95. No credit checks are carried out what so ever and I understand it is easy to load

I've just made 3 separate bookings for consecutive nights using my prepaid mastercard. No £5 charges, the prices are the same as before the offer & I've just received my accommodation vouchers/confirmation/receipts from Alpharooms (not going to count my chickens till I'm in my room though!).

Some people have reported problems when booking 3 consecutive nights with separate vouchers. This is a bit rotten, as the original terms only appeared to ban multiple vouchers for the SAME booking. Anyhow, there are 3 of us going on this trip, so I "gifted" a voucher to each of my fellow travellers (ie different lead passengers for each booking), the rule specifically said that this is OK (where is the c0ck-a-snook smiley??!).

It's a shame to have to jump/swerve so many hoops to get what seemed like a genuine offer, however if that's an end to it, I'm reasonably happy now.

When did they add the pre-paid mastercard option? I have one of these, and would have used it for sure if I'd been able to, when I made my 4 (= £20 extra) bookings on 8th April.

Do you think I could go back to them & complain?

Well done and yes they have finally added the proper free option and added the pre-paid Mastercard option. Still has the Solo option as well though!!!!!!!!!

Sad that others have had to pay the £5 when before last night there was NO free option and especially sad for those that paid £5 for a less than £50 booking (nothing to pay). Just hope that Alpharooms can see the sillyness of that issue and refund (without having to be asked).

The original offer now appears to be more like what was promoted by Groupon - get them rooms booked or at least get or borrow a pre-paid Mastercard and then get them rooms booked. ;)
Got a FairFX card via Topcashback with £5.05 cashback (tracked), had to load with £50 though.

FairFX card arrived today (very quick), activated it and booked hotel through Alpharooms and discount came off no problem. I did take a screenshot of a "dummy run" first just to see if there was any price difference when using the voucher code (there wasn't).
Not booked the original hotel/dates as they had changed by almost £30 since the voucher code became active.
No card fee to pay and the hotel booked was just over the £50 price anyway................so far so good.
Need to book another hotel with other voucher, but not just yet, and this will be in a different lead name as there has been problems with multiple bookings getting cancelled when booking multiples in one name only.

Good luck, lots of hurdles to get over................just hope we don't fall near the finish and all goes sweetly from now on.

  • I wish that I had the problems listed on this thread, but when I enter the voucher I can't book a room at all, reason being that it's only for use in hotels where payment is taken online, rather than made at the hotel itself. I'd like to know where it states that in the ts & cs.

I only bought it in order to get a cheap place in Weymouth before catching the early ferry to Jersey in July. Absolutely no need for it now.

Ask for a refund. I pointed out that the T+Cs say its valid for 'any room available on the website at time of booking' yet I was apparently only allowed to use it on 6 out of 55 hotel options available. Got a refund quickly with no argument.
