Groupon £20 for £50 worth of hotel vouchers

  • Ask for a refund. I pointed out that the T+Cs say its valid for 'any room available on the website at time of booking' yet I was apparently only allowed to use it on 6 out of 55 hotel options available. Got a refund quickly with no argument.

I think that's what I will do, thanks.

Woo Hooo!!! I have just received an email from Alpha rooms informing me that they will be refunding my £5, and I hadn't written to them yet! It would seem they have either seen sense or been made to see sense!

I will never use Alpha rooms again, so if they thought this Groupon promotion was going to increase business, they have completely screwed this up!

Excellent news Eve4ever, maybe Trading Standards have put some pressure on them as they stated it was "unfair".

Not a company I would touch again either - not impressed.

In fairness to Alpharooms, I got the 3 rooms I wanted at the same price as before the voucher went live.

I did contact them re the credit card charge on zero amounts, which I thought was disgusting, but I still got a good deal. The refund is just a bonus.

I accept it seems I have been lucky in comparison to others who have been let down by them, which is a shame because I have used them many times and found their service very good.

Why is it these sort of promotions always seem to backfire lol. Hope everybody gets sorted.
  • just received an email saying that because the cost of the room was less than 50 that they would refund me the card details in the next few days! very pleased.
  • I have tried to use my Groupon voucher & have hit the same problems as others. For a room in Bath on 17/6, there are 17 available hotels from £60 without the code, and only 5 hotels from £101.52 with the code. When I checked availability on the cheapest with the code, it was coming up as unavailable on all room types.

I have sent an e-mail to Groupon asking for a refund & await their response. This is my first transaction with them, and I am not impressed.

I booked my hotel yesterday with the Groupon voucher. I am glad I waited as I paid with my prepaid Mastercard so no fees to pay. The hotel was £3 more expensive than Octopus Travel but overall I saved £27 which I am very happy with. The Groupon voucher only seems to work on prepaid bookings but not bookings that require payment at the hotel. Which is why hotels go 'missing'. Seems to happen a lot to UK booking but for non-UK bookings it works a charm.

The prices on Alpharooms are crazy.
Hotel for 3 nights is actually dearer by over £18 than if you booked for 5 nights (which includes the 3 nights anyway).
Worth playing around with the dates, it certainly pays dividends. ;)

Quite unbelievable that this hasn't been sort yet (3 weeks on) and again shows the bad side of this company - very little, if any customer interest, apart from financial of course.

Good luck, but a waste of time contacting Groupon as the overcharge was 100% Alpharooms fault and it's their issue - not Groupons.

Send a recorded letter giving 7 to 10 days to re-pay this "debt" or advise you will go via the legal route to recover this plus all costs involved.

I've booked with them, but after reading on the net issues regarding rooms not available on arrival, I'm concerned to say the least.
