dmg24 - I have to agree with Samutiana. I understand what you're saying about allocation, but it seems like too much of a coincidence that their allocations were reached immediately after the vouchers were activated.

There were 3 other hotels in Leeds that I was looking at - and they've all increased in price.

Ten thousand vouchers were sold, so it is inevitable that prices will increase as allocation was sold and indeed, some hotels that were available no longer will be. That is simple supply and demand, not a rip off.

I am still wondering about all these massively overpriced hotels that samutiana has found?
    Gone ... or have I?

    I've been Money Tipped!
I can't believe they are charging a £5 card fee for an under £50 transaction...........hope they refund these, no paymant taken should mean no fee as no payment has been processed.
The hotel I was looking at has gone up £30 also, available for around £46 and now £76, though some others are still the same.
I may just cancel my voucher and get a refund if they are charging a £5 card fee for nil payment............complete rip-off!!!!
I'll give them a call Monday and see what they say.

Okay, I'm not about to list all my searches, but as an example:

3 May (1 night), double room, 2 people...

    Apex London Wall
    Lastminute: £243
    Alpharooms: £330.51
    Difference: +£87.51

    Millennium Baileys
    Lastminute: £145.87
    Alpharooms: £204
Difference: +£58.13 (granted Alpharooms rate includes breakfast, but it seems a very expensive meal...)

Yes maybe Alpharooms may have some rooms cheaper than other agents/brokers - which is why I shop around (I don't just stick to Lastminute). It just appears to me, from my searches and where I want to stay, that Alpharooms are much higher priced.

So in your selective examples, you have ignored the fact that the Apex is more expensive at at least three more sites (Hotelopia, Atlas Choice, Hotel Pronto)?

Breakfast at the Millenium is around £20 each, so the difference against Last Minute is down to £18. Hence, when you use your voucher it would be cheaper. There are also at least three agents that have higher rates for the same night.

If you are going to make such a strong statement, then at least be able to back it up with facts. Your attempt at substantiating it is cringeworthy!

    Do you work for Alpharooms?

They're two hotels I've stayed at and was planning to stay at again as a treat for myself and my partner. I've never even heard of Atlas Choice or Hotel Pronto - I tend to stay on the Hotels.com/Laterooms/Lastminute/HotelClub/Expedia/Venere/hotel's own site circuit :)

I'm not sure why you're so bothered about this tbh. It's turned out to not be a good deal for me because my original practical reason for buying the voucher (hotel at Luton airport) was unavailable. It's not been a good deal for some other people. It's been a fantastic deal for some other people and hats off to them. On this site we write about the good and the bad, and I'm not sure it's necessary for you to put up such a vehement defence of Alpharooms - surely the measure of it will be all the good stories versus (hopefully) a very small number of bad stories like mine told on this thread :)

    Have a good evening.

Theres no defence for Alpha Rooms charging me £15 to process 3 zero amounts. (And also taking £57.00 for one order that was zero).

Absolutely discgraceful behaviour. Something I would expect from Ryanair;)

Last time I use Groupon. Last time I use Alpharooms.

I'm very much with you on this jonnyjackov, absolutely disgraceful for charging a £5 card fee for processing nothing/zero/zilch.
Definitely a company I would never consider again either...............unless they back-down on this stupidity.
If they don't, they deserve all the bad press they get as they then can be classed as "rip-off merchants".
Much better and cheaper companies out there, hence not having booked with Alpha Rooms in the past.

Looks like another Groupon fiasco!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

I think it's a great deal. Staying at th radisson blu Liverpool with breakfast for £30. I ha to pay the £5 charge but didn't bat an eyelid. I understand some people may be angry the have to pay a five pound fee for no charge being made, but surely u should see the benefitsof saving the money from the voucher!?

I'm another that's very happy with this deal, H & I had flights booked to Montpellier & used these for our hotel, so instead of £63 per night I paid £38 including the card charge.

id also be very happy but while buying £59 hotel the amount to pay shown was about 11£ I confirmed that and then ...guess what?
67£ was taken from my account instead of said 11. That's just gross, then they sent those emails they will be refunding...Let's see
