Thanks for your speedy replies.:) Like the fool I am I joined my offers before I found this site therefore stupidly thought I had possibly won somethng. I'm a bit worried now as I had started filling out the survey thing before I got suspicious I didn't finish the survey thing and it didn't ask for any bank details, is my offers a dodgy site then?It won't let me unsubscribe!:eek:Got the xp security virus last week:eek: and my son who was home from uni for the weekend spent most of it getting rid of the virus (don't know how I got it,see what I mean about being rubbish with the puter:( ) so don't want to admit to another mess up days later :rotfl:Bissell carpet shampooer, clairol 5 in 1 shampoo:D

My Offers is viewed on here as a spam site.I think that is as bad as it gets & it is not a phishing site ie they are not trying to steal your bank details etc.
What Anti-Virus product are you using at the moment.I had problems a few years back with a Trojan but since 2008 I have used Kaspersky Internet Security & have not had a single problem. When I used the free products I was caught out so now prefer to pay.I got a three user copy for about £22 so per computer/per year it is good value for peace of mind.
Another tip would be not to use the computer as the "Administrator"i ,f that makes sense.I'd set another user account up so that it is harder to install programs etc in error. This way a concious effort is needed to install things.I do this on my daughter laptop. She does not know the administrators password so cannot add things as easily.0 -
Currently using McAfee through o2 broadband package (top McAfee package) McAfee didn't stop it, son said I must have let the Trojan in! Son's (dumbed down) explanation for me on how it could have happened - McAfee is like the bouncers at the door of a club they say to the Trojan "no your not gettin' in" but you (the club owner) overrule them and say "yeah it's alright lads, let them in" so basically I invited the bad guys in!! Still don't know how I did it though:( Think I'll run things past some of the extremely helpful people on here first, till I get a bit more knowledgeable about how things workwith both comping and computing:)
This is the second copy of this message as I managed to delete the first one I think, cos I can't find it:rotfl::rotfl:Thanks for the help:beer:Bissell carpet shampooer, clairol 5 in 1 shampoo:DBIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE COMP POSTERS

No problem.I'd get your son set up as "administrator" plus you as a named user. It'll be harder then for you to install anything dodgy.0

And if you need advice at any time, the Guys on the Techie Forum are brilliant at talking less technical people (like me) through ways of getting you out of problems. They've saved me time and money on more than one occasion.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post, I'm wasn't sure..
I wondered if anyone could give me some advice on a prize I'm able to take.
I won a competition late last year, a few nights in Scotland, Ballater, with a couple of meal vouchers and a whiskey tour - all with Findus and Visit Scotland, £200 spending money and £100 travel expenses.
After some time and messing me around, they finally got their act together and sent me all the things I needed for the trip - which had to be taken by the 22nd April 2011. I had planned to take it next week on the 18th. They also told me that one of the meals I was unable to take because they weren't open during the week, until summer.
My grandad got really poorly and I had been travelling back to Wales, which I made them aware of, recently my Grandad has passed away and now I'm going to be in Wales for the indefinite future. I have told them what's going on and that I can't attend next week, she has asked me to send back the meal voucher and the cheque for the £200 spending money as they will now award the prize to someone else - do I have any right to keep the money, if the prize was meant to be taken by next week, where do they stand on giving it to someone else?
I have already cashed the cheque because it was needed with the travelling last month, now I'm brassic until next month.
Any advice anyone can give me would be very appreciated!

They can contact the company on your behalf and deal with this, If you attach all emails with a covering email to them, they will have all the info regarding who you have dealt with etc.

Thanks to all for replying found techie board (didn't know it existed) was blown away with all the stuff there! This site is so much bigger than I thought. It's amazing! still finding my way about, but well impressed with both the site and how helpful the people on here are:A Is there somewhere I can get a run down on what the abbreviations in posts mean etc- HTH ETA etc just to give me a heads up on some of the posts,so I don't have to guess (probably guess wrongly and use the abbrev wrongly:rotfl:) Thanks in advance:DBissell carpet shampooer, clairol 5 in 1 shampoo:D
