Haribo, I bought a standard lilac last year for outside my front door, and it survived the terrible winter, wrapped in bubble wrap tucked behind my wheelie bin. It is in full bloom at the moment and is quite breath taking - I had been scared to prune it, never having had one before, and its a bit mis-shapen, but smells divine :j

We have lived here for 10 years Jackie and this is the best the lilac has ever performed. It must be a good year for them. I intend to send OH up a stepladder tomorrow to get the out of reach blooms as I want to leave the ones on the lower branches as they are right beside the spot were I sit in the mornings. :D

    TudorRose, those prices are scary!!!

Seeing everyones money saving gardening posts I thought I'd tell you what I saw at Morrisons today.
Outside they had a lovely looking display of plants, hanging baskets, trees etc.
Had a quick look as I went in as my eye was caught by some fancy 'trained' (can't think of a better description) conifers in pots which would look nice by a front door or on a patio.
Price? I nearly fell over in shock when saw that they were £55.00 & £100.00 each! From a supermarket! I'd want them personally delivered for that not humped into a trolley then into the back of the car.

I saw those in our local Morrisons and nearly fell over with shock, but then saw loads of people rushing to buy them:eek: I balked at buying a ball shaped bush thingy in Aldi today at £8.99 as I deemed to be expensive!!

Go for the penguin - snow leopards are lovely and graceful but penguins are fat and funny. :D

I popped into my local Co-op on the way home to get a daily paper and they had just reduced the bakery goods so I got a small bloomer for 10p. Were having pasta with left over honeyroast ham thro it tonight so a bargain meal. There was also an apple tart reduced to 25p but just as I reached for it a little old lady (who wasn't as frail as she looked) snatched it out the way and gave the most menacing look ever. She must be well known to the staff though - as I was paying the assistant said "you have to be quick when Molly's here or she has all the reductions" I thought it's better than food going to waste and she's maybe on a pitiful pension so by the time I got to the car I was actually feeling guilty about my 10p loaf.

I need to toughen up to this money saving business I think:)

I have had a call this evening which was most certainly some kind of scam. youngest ds came running up the stairs with the phone and said it was for me. A man with an Indian voice said I am Daniel and I just need you to check your computer, can you switch it on please. He did not mention the company he worked for and I smelled a rat so said sorry and hung up. I did a google search and hey presto it was a Liberian number. I seem to remember reading about some kind of scam that meant someone being able to access your important data. I don't do online banking and apart from this site and approved foods I only have passwords for education sites so they would not exactly gain much from hacking my computer. Unless they want an education of course!

Well I am sorry but I certainly dont think Annie56 should be keeping the poodle. If it has a name tag then it is a pet and has probably escaped or ran off. There will be a family very distraught out there. Chances are if it is tagged then it will be microchipped so I would suggest taking it to the vets to check and informing all the pounds in the area as well as the vets.

Pssst TudorRose, I know of a conifer that needs a new home, nudge nudge, wink wink...

I agree redlady, the vet should have scanned her for a chip when looking at her, and be contacting other vets to let them know, as well as the pound and police. Home the wee dog finds her way home if she's missed.
