saveabob, many people are totally oblivious to what is happening in the world, sometimes ignorance isn't bliss. You know what's going on and you are trying to mitigate the effects for your family, it's hard work and sometimes that's stressful.
I do what I can and leave it at that, worrying is wasted energy and I need all I can get at the moment as things get more difficult. Action works, worrying just makes me ill.
I try to shave things off where the family won't notice as much as I can, but that is getting harder lately. They are good though, and help out as much as they can. I have to say they are happier that I make much more from scratch, especially baking!0 -
Hi everyone. I haven't been posting recently but have just caught up on reading all the posts:) I was very pleased to hear the Archbishop speak out too. A great deal of common sense, good on him. Yes prices are rising daily and it is an awful worry for people. Doing our best and storing stuff and thinking ahead to winter already to be prepared.xDo a little kindness every day.;)0

DD2 comes home from university for the summer tomorrow :j can't wait to see her - even though she's been there two years I miss her terribly during term time. Will be another mouth to feed for 3 months though and she eats like a horse. She also gets into bad habits with leaving lights and other electrics switched on for hours at a time, as the rent she pays for uni accomodation is all inclusive, so I can see a few heated exchanges ahead until she gets her head round the way we live at home.
Does anyone on here use Microsoft Money? I've used it for years and it is fantastic for keeping all finances in a tight grip (if you are disciplined enough to use it daily that is- my DH says I'm not only disciplined I'm so bad I border on OCD with it:o) I get worried because it's no longer sold or supported by Microsoft and I don't think there is another financial package on the market to use in it's place. So far it has proved compatible with Windows XP and Vista but I'm terrified that when our laptop needs replacing, which it may do fairly soon, the programme may not work with Windows 7. I know lots of people use spreadsheets but our financial set up is very complicated (due to me squeezing every penny till it squeaks and using lots of different accounts) so spreadsheets wouldn't work half as well, and neither would spreadsheets run reports on everything from how much has been spent on cat food in the last 5 years to what bills are forecast for the next month, year, decade (take your pick)......can you tell I love this programme?:o:o:o
Felt very cross on way home from work at lunchtime to see a river of water still running down the road from a leak that I reported TWO WEEKS ago to Severn Trent - and only this morning they were quoted on the radio as saying a hosepipe ban was imminent for their customers. I don't use a hosepipe but I do pay a huge amount for water and I object to seeing it wasted like this.

I'm an accountant and I use Quicken for the household accounts. It works great. You should be able to get a cheap one off e-bay.GC Mar 13 £47.36/£1500 -

I do have a copy of quicken but I use this as well. We have a virgin one account for our mortgage and in order to keep the monthly interest as low as I can, it helps to keep as much cash in it as possible. I don't want to lose sight of which bit of it is the actual mortgage so I use quicken divided up into lots of accounts and call it Virgin one and use MSMoney for the whole family finances with Virginone showing just as one account within that (I hope that makes sense - sounds complicated but I have managed to shave hundreds of pounds off the interest by doing this - makes it easy to overpay too)...gosh sometimes I talk too muchI should just have said I use both and not bored you to death! Appreciate your answer though, thanks!
