<nips in with quick PS thought on nettle stings - bethought myself "Mustnt forget - its plantain leaves - not dock leaves - that one uses to soothe nettle stings". So - for nettle stings (or insect bites either) - crush some plantain leaves and apply to those stings. I've not had occasion to try that personally since being told it - but apparently it "works very well">

    ...nips back out again...

Actually, it's dock not plantain or, possibly, dock as well as plantain, as long as we're talking about broadleafed dock. Speaking as someone who was always getting nettle stings as a child and used dock leaves as the cure. (And I've tried what I'm fairly sure was plantain and it didn't work at all.)

I looked this up in Wikipedia (for a picture) thinking that I might have just got the wrong name for the plant I used to use and the one pictured under broad leaved dock, Rumex obtusifolius, is definitely the plant I knew as dock.

If you look up plantain in wiki look for plantago otherwise you'll be trying to rub bananas on your stings. :rotfl:

I'll look at Kemps too, Thanks. I can't knit but crochet a fair bit.

Also I have been using http://www.yarn4less.com/ I would like to crochet myself what I would call a 'house jacket' something toasty to wear while I'm doing my jobs etc

oooooohhhh nnoooooooo - get thee behind me Satan

  • went to our local butcher today and it's one of those that do meat offers like 2 for £5, 3 for £10 etc and we always tended to get the meat packs but today when we went we picked up a pork loin joint for £9.99 and it was around 1.5kg - if we bought it while it wasn't on the offer then it would have been something like £6.99 per kg
a beef joint that was also £9.99 for just under a kg on offer and would have been over £11 per kg not on offer
but then looking round at the fresh stuff behind the counter i noticed that the pork loin was £5.93 per kg and the silverside beef was £8.13 per kg
so DH and i promptly put down the packaged stuff and asked for £10 of pork loin and £10 of silverside and we ended up with more pork than the packaged pack and around the same in beef as the packaged pack
we then asked the butcher to cut each of the joints into steaks for us and we got 12 pork steaks and 10 beef steaks once he had cut them for us
we are quite impressed by what we got for our money and have decided to give the frozen pork steaks from farmfoods a miss from now on, along with the pre packaged meat from the butchers

we were also talking about the fact that we want to move so it's a case of getting the house as sorted as we can so we have made a loose sort of plan - me to get a full time job asap and any of my wages will be put to one side to start saving up a deposit and we will continue to live off DH's wages and hopefully we will be able to move in a couple of years :)

Today was not as productive as I would have liked. The rain stopped my plans for the garden and tiredness hindered any dent in the housework. I planned to make HM pizzas for boys for dinner but ended up buying some in Tescos. My shoulder has really hampered my sleeping and I am whacked. I hope the doc can help when I go on Tuesday.

I just checked out the Kemps website. I am going to place an order when I get paid. I have been planning to start knitting for ages, now I will get on with it.

I have no plans for the eveing apart from watching Gardeners World. Monty is in the Giverny gardens this evening and I have always wanted to visit it there. I am considering booking a holiday in France next year so I can visit them.

I am aafter some advice please. I have decided to order my flour from Shipton Mill instead of Doves as they do frree postage over a certain weight. Just wondering what the best white bread flour and plain flour would be please. I know some of you use Shipton so advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

all their flour is good and is clean of weevils. Last order I had 701, 117, 113 and also wholemeals and rye. I should make a note of what I get because I can never remember. Any of their flours would suit me as they are all good but I try to get organic when I can. Next time around I am getting ciabatta as it made very good ciabatta last time. Delivery is 24 hour. Excellent for free

Ooooooooo so nice to know I am not alone in my obsession! I'm running Money 2000

I use money, an old version and I would despair if I ever lost it. I chose xp especially because of money. I use it every day and know where every penny is because of it and I transfer all the due bills to my current account for 2 months ahead, so that I can forward plan. I remember buying of off ebay and think it was 1998. Oh, what a sad life I lead :)
