yup but some of these so called low-income families who just sponge of the working people and cant afford to look after there kids would rather have Sky TV, Smoke and go down the pub every week ETC.
While some people who try to hold down a job pay taxes and end up with alot less and struggle to survive and if they want help they just get told NO YOU WORK.

Fair enough. But if it's really such a great situation to live in poor social surroundings, possibly in an area rife with crime, with poor health, poor educational prospects and hence menial job prospects, no money to do anything much other than just manage, and where a person's only pleasures in life are alcohol, cigarettes, TV and reading The Sun, I'm sure everyone would be queuing up at their local benefits office  ;)

Frankly I like being educated, having good health (touch wood), the opportunites I have in life and a future to look forward to. I really don't aspire to live like that and can't feel much more than sympathy for those who could even imagine to live in such a futureless bland existences.

lol, this topic realy is sinking low when your having a go at sky and going to the pub and smoking etc, i haddent realised these activitys were exclusivly for the poor and unemployed, need to tell gordon brown to reduce the cost of things as since poor folk buy more if it were cheeper!

So why come on a freebies board if theres so much bad feeling for geting something for nothing?

Or is it ok for the low income familys (non breast feeders/ unemployed) make harsh judgments on the earners of the site and make inconciderate comments regardless? I think not so if anyones got anything to say keep it to yourself and keep this topic/forum for what it was intended.

This isnt a parent class site nor is it a soap box for those who feel hard done by for being in the position to work and afford things that some cant.

Im sure the person who started this post wasnt trying to get a debate out it, it was a very helpful post to those who are eligible for it.

I think the point is if you are working, you can afford milk and fruit >.<

It's not meant as a freebie to those just scrimping on pennies who could afford to buy it otherwise but whose budgeting leaves alot to be desired. It's for low-income families who are struggling to give their children basic nutrition.

I would never begrudge a child a good start in life.

Ok, as above post (frapp) , going a bit off topic now !! BUT...

I understand that, but the thing that annoys me is that just because you work & own your home, it doesn't mean that you are any better off, or never struggle. In fact I think it is the opposite, being a lot of the time worse off !

As I have said above, I do not want to offend anyone, if the benefits are put there, then of course people are going to claim them.

It was off topic before i got here, i was just trying to prove a point.

Just trying to show its daft to make sweeping generalisations no matter the background, all it does is cause hurt and bad feeling where there shouldnt be any, this is the FREEBIES forum!

Wasn't actually saying that you made it off topic frapp, was actually agreeing with you. No one has mentioned milk tokens for a while now, I just wanted to put my point across, as has everyone else.

Yes it is the freebies 'forum' which is located in a chat forum, meaning we can all chat & have our own opinions. What a boring world it would be if we all had the same thoughts and dreams.

Fair play, if you are entitled to it, go get it. As I have said in a previous post, I don't know whats around the corner for me, I too may be entitled to some help in the future.

    Regarding breastfeeding versus formula milk:

It puts babies at increased risks of things like ear infections, gastrointestinal problems, obesity, lower IQ etc etc,

Sorry, I know I am going to get slated now, but where do I find out more about this information. I formula fed my son from 3 weeks, and he is very bright, never had an ear infection, or anything else to do with his health (touchwood) and is definetely not overweight ! If it was THAT BAD, surely it wouldn't be on every supermarket/chemist shelf. Each to their own, but not everyone can breastfeed their children until they're at the school gate.

    Lower IQ :rotfl:

Thats exactly what i was thinking,
Noone is disputing breast is best but to force this view on people reminds me of the horrid midwifes you hear about, i was asked once if i wanted to breast feed, my reply was no and i dont want to so dont keep asking, seemed to do the trick!
But some people feel pressured, my friend did and it really upset her as she couldnt do it.
    :j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j
  • i probably would of tried breastfeeding if i was in a state too but had both children by emergency caessarian and was druuged up to eyeballs so wasnt an option they seem to both be doing fine on formula
i am happy with my vouchers i receive they dont cover how mucch i pay for formula, liquid milk and fruit and veg and i pay the difference but every little helps
    JAN WINS- pepsi tshirt,
  • Well i cerainly dont expect to receive them, they were being given out (well milk tokens) long before i had my son, I wasnt getting them when i worked and i didnt complain, TBH i wouldnt miss the,m if i didnt get them again.
I hardly think you can compare baby formula to twizzlers.

I have breast fed all three of my boys not easy at all with two of them as they were premature and I bottle fed expressed B/M for first 6 weeks. I cannot understand how any well informed parent would believe that formula milk is any different to any other processed food. Breastmilk changes composition depending on the stage your baby is at and on what germs are in their body at the time of feeding. Formula milk is full of artificial ingredients. My first two were section babies, the first under general, he was not one of my premies and I was drugged up and missed his first day. Still breast fed him. Anyway there goes my soap box!

On a different note I was able to get milk tokens with my first but unable to use them as there was no local shop/milkman who would take them. If these new tokens mean that it helps out towards the food bill in tescos thats fantastic.

yes the key word is "increaed risk" .

Your baby might be on frmula and be fine. Doesnt mean it isnt true.
Smoking causes increased risk of lung cancer.
Im sure we all know someone who smokes 20 a day and doesnt get cancer? but I doubt yo will here anyone saying "if smoking was THAT BAD" they wouldnt sell them in the supermarket" or "lung cancer :rotfl: "
