Sorry but where did i say formula isn't processed? the point i was trying to make, is that formual is hardly comparable to twizzlers seeing as it is needed to keep some babies alive!shed_head wrote:I have breast fed all three of my boys not easy at all with two of them as they were premature and I bottle fed expressed B/M for first 6 weeks. I cannot understand how any well informed parent would believe that formula milk is any different to any other processed food. Breastmilk changes composition depending on the stage your baby is at and on what germs are in their body at the time of feeding. Formula milk is full of artificial ingredients. My first two were section babies, the first under general, he was not one of my premies and I was drugged up and missed his first day. Still breast fed him. Anyway there goes my soap box!
On a different note I was able to get milk tokens with my first but unable to use them as there was no local shop/milkman who would take them. If these new tokens mean that it helps out towards the food bill in tescos thats fantastic.
You have a choicee to feed your child twizzlers or not, if you dont breastfeed for whatever reason you have to feed the baby formula.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -

I dunno how many times it has to be said, not everyone can express for many different reasons. so in some cases formula IS the only option.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0

I fnd your tone very patronising and have noted that you have said on numerous occaisions that you belive formula is the only option.
I have also noticed that you said you just "didnt want to" so I doubt you are very knowledgeabe on the subject.
I (as a qualified proffessional who advises on breastfeeding) have disagreed with this, yet I dont feel the need to be quite so condescending.
Poor education is tHe bigggest barrier to breastfeeding, and refusal to listen to FACTS (such as that formula is HARMFUL) is the biggest problem.0 -
I bottle fed my little girl formula and there's nothing wrong with her shes happy and healthy and thats all that matters, they do say breast is best, but breast might not be best for some mothers.

I find you tone and posts 'pushy' and no i have said for SOME formula is the only option, I done childcare at school and college, i read plenty of books and magazines throughout my pregnancy, so i am knowledgeable, the thing you dont seem to grasp is, i'm not saying you are wrong stating breast is better for the baby, but to accuse people of feeding their baby junk food because they dont breastfeed is offensive, and catty.
What gives you the right to judge me because i said i didnt want to breastfeed?
Dont you think mum's have alot of giult shoved on them already without feeling as though they are harming their child by bottle feeding.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
It may seem as though I am against formula feeding but that is not what I said.
I feel very strongly that it is the parents decision how they choose to feed their baby.
The world health organisation advises that breast feeding would be the first choice, expressed breast milk from mother fed via cup/bottle is second choice, expressed milk from another woman is third choice and formula milk is forth choice. In many societies women feed each others babies as they do not have access to formula. Currently our government does not have an infant feeding advisor in place, the funding is ring fenced but not being used. (I am a little shakey as to how up to date that info is)
I still cannot get my head around how you differentiate between processed foods, turkey twizzlers, hotdogs, processed cheese, coca cola, formula milk. All maufactured and all filled with artificial ingredients. Its a long time since I looked at the ingredients on a tin of formula but tomorrow I will go have a look in tescos.
I was formula fed, I have a degree in mathematics and have so far led a healthy life. There is however a lot of well reseached evidence out there to suggest that children who were fed exclusivly on breast milk are healthier, fitter, and more intelligent than their formula fed peers. DEF one of my soap boxes that I feel very strongly about I am fed up of hearing I was told by midwife I could not breast feed because I had a section, baby was prem, baby was not gaining weight as the charts suggested etc..... If a woman make an informed decision to feed her baby formula all well and good. Too many women do not breast feed because they are not given enough information to make an informed decision...... stopping now before I really start ranting!
Asides from that I stil think any scheme that gets more money to low income families has got to be good, shame the WTC people miss out though perhaps an email campaign to local MPs may change this.0 -
YES THEY ARE ALL PROCESSED BUT FORMULA IS NEEDED TO KEEP SOME BABIES ALIVE! HARDLY A KILLER!
If you lived on a diet of turkey twizzlers alone for at least 6 months, up to a year, you would either die or be seriously ill and malnourished, how many babies have died r been seriously ill from being fed formula, yes formula is artifitial, now if formula was that bad, surely there would be people campaingning to ban it? oh sorry they cant otherwise babies will die.
I dont understand how you can rant because a mother doesnt want to breastfeed. Is that not her choice?
Some of the comments on this thread are like something out of a mother and toddler group, 'oh well i had a c section but i breastfed' 'how could you feed your baby junk food' give me a break, i'm out of this coz some obvioulsy are so high up on their soap boxes they cant hear or see anything else.
I just hope a new mum who doesnt breastfeed hasnt come accross this thread and seen the junk food comments.
There is a way of putting things accross, and informing people but naming it junk food isnt it.
Like has been said befor, surely if formula was THAT bad, it would be banned.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -

tbh i find your posts patronising and condesending looking down on women who cant breatfeed.
This whole thread has degenerated into a slanging match of bash non breastfeeing mothers and those who dont work and thse on benefits.
surley the place for these discussions in on the discussions board and not on a freebie post which has gone WAY off topic.Bad mother to 2!
