well oviously if the mother had died or dumed the baby, thn the fact that she is not present decides that she cannot breastfeed rather than a medical/physiological condition doesnt it?
I am unsure as to what illnesses you refer to o I cant really comment on that, however it is worth noting that even mother with HIV are encouraged to breastfeed as the benefits of breastfeeding, and the risks to babies health of not being breastfed are greater than the risks of cathcing HIV.
If the mother is a drug addict then I guess she is not interested in her babies welfare anyay, so would not be interested in breastfeeding.0 -
awww i am so sorry you had such a terrible time, are your twins well now?samarnesen wrote:while my twins were in scbu there was never any mention of using milk from milk banks i was told my nearest was in birmingham and im in south wales so quite a distance they stopped formula after about 4 days and i breastfed the remainder but i will always be grateful that the formula was available i didnt mention my youngest twin was severely ill and had to be resusitated and i was told that was one of the reasons my milk didnt come through because i was so stressed apparently it can dry your milk up within days
My friend had a bab at 33weeks, and was deserate t breastfeed but die to the stress she never made enough milk as her baby was very very ill. She was very stressed (naturally) and also her baby was not well enough t feed very frequently, which both of these things are damaging to milk supply.
I wasnt aware that not all hospitals offer banked milk. I am luky enough to be near a hospital that does so i assumed all hospitals did, sorry abut that.
i hope things are less comlicated for you this time

nobody is going to win this arguement
i have a friend that thinks breastfeeding is disgusting breasts are a sexual thing
i love breastfeeding i find it comforting and i love the fact that that little person is wholely dependant on me
and finally women were given breasts to feed their offspring otherwise we would never exist because formula wasnt around at the start of time
a bit dramatic i know but im sure you know what i meanExtra payment every week challenge £15 so far

I was simply giving reasons as to why some babies need formula to survive, i find it quite sad that people can be accused of feeding their babies junk food because for whatever reason they dont breastfeed.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0

i also empathise with you astonsmummy
i personally dont think that formula is junkfood afterall breastmilk is made up of nutrients from the mum so if the mum has had a plate of chips a cigarette and a glass of wine the baby will get the same so thats upto the mother to be responsible with what she eatsExtra payment every week challenge £15 so far

I being reading this thread with intrest now, i have five kids with the youngest being 12 weeks old and not entitled to the vouchers at all as the o/h earn £300 too much but thats life:cool:
But when it comes to breast and formula my prefrance is breast . With my last 3 they were all breast fed untill a year old without a problem but now i have had my little man its all different and had to fight myself with this one.
Since he was 3 weeks i have had to add a formula feeds in which i didnt want to do , but he Physically he drained me and still can. He feeds of me at night , morning and afternoon but when it comes to evenings he cluster feeds and i was sitting with him for over 5 hrs and i was wacked. He now has two formula 8oz bottles a day and since its been added hes a lot happier and sleeping through the night. The option to express is there but it takes hours so i gave up on that idea.
To be honest formula has been a god send and with him not being fussy weather he has me or a bottle is great too as there are times that sitting down with for a hour aint going to happen:cool: And he can be handed over.
Doing both is working well for me hes happy my othe l/o are happy and mummy isnt tierd:D0
