It was about healthy food voucjers! lol
I have to say i'm one of those who took it off topic but i felt i had to speak up for all the mums out there who dont breastfeed for whtever reason as to be told ur feeding your baby junkfood is complete nonsense.
And i found it quite offensive.

  • I work at tesco and we have been told we can take the voucher's as part payment for tinned baby milk and for cows milk i dunno how many pints now it was 7 when the tokens were 2.31, they havent said anything about veggies even though the voucher states veggies when i go in 2moz i can find out what the actual policy is but tbh i doubt they will have a clue cuz they havent about anything else.

babys under one get 2 tokens a week, so it works out the same for geting the tub of milk free.

I also lost the train of this thread when it became a rant at low income and non breast feeding. oh to live in a perfect world like some other folk.

I gotta say I agree here, I have been in both situations, working and claiming at the moment we are looking at having to claim as my husband is unable to work right now, so am looking whilst I find something.

There are so many sweeping generalisations in this thread it saddens me. Yes there are people who scrounge of the state but there are also many people who use the system for what it is intended, as a last resort.

As for the whole breastfeeding/forumla business, so what if you don't want to breastfeed and your reasons for not doing so are nobody elses business. I used to see this discussion many times on a parenting website and so many women would start coming out giving their reasons because they felt guilty at not breastfeeding, I used to be one of them because I just couldn't do it but I refuse to explain or go into any detail it is personal to me and my child.

Some women do have a problem with seeing the breast as a sexual thing and therefore not to be used in conjunction with a child, there can be many reasons for this yet these women are ridiculed for it.

Leave people and their choices be, concentrate on your own families and bring them up to the best of your abilities, as long as children aren't coming to harm and people aren't abusing the system then leave them to it.

Sorry for the rant but frankly i am surprised this thread has been able to turn into a discussion on this board anyway and thought I may as well air my views which i rarely do.

All depends what milk you need - granted £5.60 (2 tokens) will buy something like a basic Cow & Gate, but it won't buy Omneo, Aptimil or some of the other specialised milks, some of which can cost up to £9 a carton.

And it's not as if many people would use the more expensive milks by choice, it is usually out of necessity for the baby.

hmm just been catching up with the thread..its very sad all the judging going on. i breastfed for 6 weeks and then couldnt any longer, my child had formula.
formula is not junk, its sometimes nessacary.
i think some people ought to walk in anothers shoes for a couple of miles before judging so harshly.

I breastfed for 8 weeks, then my helpful doctor precribed antibiotics for a chest infection - that rendered my breasts useless. I tried to carry on, but daughter was so hungry she was screaming all the time. So had to go on to formula - and as she's such an awkward madam, the only one she could hold down was Aptamil.

OMG I can't believe that in our supposedly civilised society and era people even hold depraved views like that. Our education system is obviously working really well
