Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 2nd April. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well

Morning everyone. Something told me I might be the first this morning :(. Not really feeling too good. Had hair done yesterday, and hairdresser had to stop so I could rush to their bathroom. Definately NO pitter patter of tiny feet on the way here though. Slept for most of the rest of the day after that. Feels like I have cramp all over my body - particularly back and legs. Feel like I've had a fever too but am determined to be on the mend now.

OH has been diagnosed with high blood pressure - so high that he'll be on meds for it - anyone got any advice about diet changes that I could make? He has almost constant headaches at the moment because of it. Will pop and see our neighbour who is a nurse for more advice.

was due to go and see MIL on Sunday but I can't see how as I can't drive like this and I fall asleep evey half hour or so. oooohhhh I ache all over. Think this weekend will be all about survival - can we survive the children? Food from the freezer. House lookslike several bombs have hit, but will tackle when am feeling better. Sorry to be so downbeat. I'll be back on my feet soon - definately.:T
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Sorry to hear your both not well esmf, is there anyone who can look after the kids whilst you get your head down for a bit??

Not sure about the blood pressure thing but I think my FIL was told to reduce his salt intake to assist his?? Might be worth looking into?

Today we will be stripping one of the kidsbedrooms to try and save some money before the decorator comes (less he has to do the cheaper!!)

Then I'm going to sort out some planting in the garden of my strawberries etc

Hope everyone Has a good day even though the weather isn't great!

    Good morning

Esmf - hope you feel better soon. There seems to be a few bugs doing the rounds these days. As Benson says, reducing salt intake is definitely a good thing for high blood pressure and I'm sure your nurse friend will have lots more advice.

Benson - the last couple of weeks are definitely the worst for discomfort. Good luck when the big day arrives!

Well, I was up early this morning so I've been surfing on here while having several cuppas - I shall probably be in need of a nap by mid-morning!

The weather yesterday was wonderful here, like the middle of summer, so I managed to get loads of washing dry, which just leaves the same load needing ironing this morning but, if the weather is good again, I shall probably be out in the garden tidying up. Yesterday I had lots to do so I was indoors for much of the time.

I need to make bread and cakes this morning so I'm expecting to get a lot done on not very much sleep!

Dinner tonight will be the rest of a beef and bacon casserole - the bacon lardons were added simply because I didn't think there was enough beef; it was really tasty and I'll do it again.

I also need to find time to visit the local pork farm to pick up some sausages and other goodies but that may have to wait until tomorrow morning.

Anyway, off to put the kettle on - again!

Hope you all have a great day.

Morning everyone - and a wet one here again, but blooming warm!

Off to have my hair done at 7.30a.m. (love my hairdresser for this!) and then a bit of early morning shopping before I settle down for my fave Time Team. :rotfl: Got some work to round off and then need to clear my laptop out ready for the new one next week.

Got some muffins in the oven for my hairdresser so watching them closely.

Am hoping for a day of leisurely activity - so all those who are decorating (at 38+2 ) or planting out or some sort have my blessings, but I shall watch from afar with wonder at your energy levels.

    Happy Saturday everyone.

WM is on, DW has finished & needs unloading, lots of other housework needs doing as well.
DS1 & DS2 are taking us out to lunch today for Mothers day so no need to cook.
Lots of knitting & gardening planned & I shall try not to think about work until I go back on Monday.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Good morning peeps,
Esmf - so sorry to hear you're feeling so bad. High blood pressure is often able to be successfully controlled with a single daily tablet. There's also a lot of information about diet on the internet.
    Benson - don't strain yourself.

Cloudy here, it was a shepherd's warning morning - beautiful rose pink!

Will have to get going soon. Need to buy the meat for our Mothering Sunday meal tomorrow. We will be DH, DD1, DSIL, 3DGSs and me, and if I am very lucky DD2. DS cannot be here but will Sky9e:)

We will be on the road a lot today as DH and I are visiting my Mum today and taking her out for a Mother's Day lunch. She is very frail. I'm not sure how many more times she will be up to going out but it is the only time she gets out of the care home:( We will take her some flowers as well.

So not very OS here today. Will do better tomorrow,
Happy Saturday, hugs to those that need or want,
    Cheers m'dears, Silver x

Good Morning everyone well at last I'm off this morning on my holidays. The weather outside is beautiful and its a lovely spring day .Hopefully it will stay like that for the next week at least.I will be wandering around the herefordshire area for a week with my pal so if anyone sees two dotty old dears rummaging around wool/material or CS come and say hello. Everything is packed and all I have to do is have a shower and load the car which shouldn't take too long,oh and make up my big flask of coffee.June is making the packed lunch so I haven't to bother about that.Well I shall see you all when I get back next Saturday.I hope everyone has a good week and if your poorly you feel better and if your worried or blue something good happens to cheers you up.
    Bye for now my lovelies

    morning all

EMSF sorry you are feeling poorly....I think there are a few viruses on their way around:o. Re your OH and diet for hypertension...as others have said one of the main things is salt. Avoid putting salt on food at the table and eat mainly foods low in salt ( 0.3g of salt per 100g), avoid anything with 1.5g salt per 100g as this is classed as high salt food.
Eat more fruit and veg as the vitamins and potassium help to balance out the electrolytes in your blood which has an effect on BP. Reduce alcohol levels. Avoid too much saturated fat to keep cholesterol levels down. He also needs to keep active and keep his weight down. Poor man it probably all seems overwhelming at first. Am sure there will be a lot of info on the net and probably diet plans etc.
Gers looks like you are enjoying your new job:T. I feel for your family and your mum. It must have been hard having an AS child back in the days when no one understood it or offered any help. one of the reasons I decided not to have anymore children was the fact that DS needs so much care that it wouldnt be fair on him,the other children or our family as a whole. I never planned to have an only child but it is the way things have turned out. DS needs time devoted to him. I couldnt have asked for a more wonderful child and have been truly blessed.
Tiredmum glad he came home and hope things get sorted out at school poor lad.
