Yep,
now that it's all mine, mine, mine, every single penny counts & I want maximum value for minimum spendage.
Although I am now DF, this month is going to be excruciatingly tight; I will be breathing in & holding my breath for days at a time _pale_.
I've paid the rent & the water bill, virgin media goes out tomorrow, along with lenses, & I had the choice of either doing shopping or paying the council tax today & I chose food.
Will pay council tax on monday once TCs go in & then I need to pay the £150 to savings funds + repay the other £70 I 'borrowed' from savings funds last month to cover overdraft, £145 to childminder & there's still the piano lessons bill due to arrive any day & my mobile bill, lovefilm, pet insurance & all the cash funds I've transferred to my monthly budget .... I will also need to top up fuel some time, but couldnt face that as well today ( + with a boot full of shopping it would be burning off more quickly so will wait until car empty - nerd)
I can see that I might have to continue with cash funds for this month as I did use £150 of wages to make final debt payment, but will try very hard not to.
So bearing all this in mind, I HAVE to stick within a Housekeeping Budget. Mine incorporates food, cleaning & laundry stuff +toiletries & pet supplies & I [STRIKE]want[/STRIKE] need to keep it under £200 a month. My version of toiletries is stuff like shampoo, toothpaste, facial wash, shower gel & other essentials used by both DD & myself. I dont classify my cosmetics or skincare, body lotions & potions or perfume as toiletries, they are my spends/treats & have to come out of my personal pocket money allowance. There isn't one of those this month, so it's lucky that I'm well stocked & have Boots points for any emergency lippie/mascara situations
.
I researched my shopping on line so had a good idea of what was on offer & how much it would cost me. I had a voucher for £7 off a £70 spend & was determined to get as close to £70 as I could.
I have no qualms about marching around Tatco with my phone set to calculator so I can add up as I go along, & managed to get all my household & toiletries for £35.14 & spent another £38.25 on groceries so a total of £73.34 but with the £7 voucher, it actually cost me £66.34p.
I then went to the pet store to get some more kitty biccies - great news; it was buy one get one half price& I was happy to donate to the 'round up to a pound' charity so the total cost in there was £11
Total Housekeeping Spends £77.34p.
That leaves me with £122.66p for the next 4 weeks or £30.65 a week. It can & will be done0 -
Hiya Mags,
Thank you & welcome
I saw your student thread earlier - great idea & if work goes wrong then I might resurrect my OU degree course just so I can join in.
I have a whole library full of reasons/excuses to stay on DFW0 -
