Hi lovely, we need to talk groceries. I just feel that you hate the unnamed place so much that you might end up just thinking s0d it and going to Waitr*se instead. Is there NOWHERE else in the vicinity that you could use to avoid this and keep spends down. Do you not have any of the four letter supermarkets even a short drive away that you could go to once a month or get a delivery from for stores? Totally with you on this lady I'm not a tatco girl either. I'm trying to convert some friends to A8da but they're nothaving it. Trouble is my local ones are all in rougher parts of toon and so yes the folk can be a bit of the 'Chelsea, Levi stop daeing that or I'll call the polis variety'. Yes this is a bit waring, especially as they tend to yell it whilst weebling around in their Ugg boots with a muffin top and leggings situation which frankly offends my eyes and ears BUT it's right cheap so I brave it once in a while. Our L*dl is also in a bit of a chud part of the city but again tis worth it for their fab meats and offers.

I know I sound like a right snob but honestly Lula! However my money is safe so while I'd rather not share a store with some folk, onwards and upwards.

Just a thought girl. Even Mr M's is good, especially for fish. XXX

I'm with Souk on that one, Lula, and moo, and I think your flak jacket is a very appealing shade of green - not :rotfl:

If the new lappie is dead, um, what are you posting on when you're not at work??? I missed a bit here.

As for planting cress and whatnot, I think I always overwater stuff in the house. Whenever I plant cress, the water either runs everywhere and the seeds are taken off in the flow, or I'm wary of doing that and they dry out and die .... even the basil I potted on from a supermarket shop, the top of the compost has a little helping of white mould, meaning I've overwatered, but the compost is coming away from the side, meaning its too dry - or too old? Its fresh, but maybe basil plants only last a couple of weeks? Dunno! Any gardeners on here :o

I'm not a fan of M&S changing rooms with their brutally honest multi view mirrors . Do they not want to sell their stuff ?

I'd rather know the truth :( well at least while I can blame it on sedentary lifestyle - once have finished studying will have no excuse and may feel differently if situation doesn't improve!

Re. That Place, I hate the one here as well but have concluded am not safe to be let loose in Waitrose as it just doubles my bill. Potential solutions under consideration:
    • Continue growing what I can.
    • Experiment with breadmaker - not sure I like bread done fully in it, but might try doing the dough in there and baking in the oven.
    • Buy frozen veg - for some reason I had stopped doing this - oh yes that would be because the freezer isn't in the kitchen any more. Anyway, laziness no excuse.
    • Do online shop once a month for Waitrose things that I can't get elsewhere (mainly meat, soups, favourite cereal, frozen veg). Pick up remainder from That Place on lunchtimes or after work.
    • Go to That Place late on a Saturday night when it's deserted - takes less time and more chance of grabbing offers.
    • Alternate That Place and The S Place depending on points offers and other vouchers/ deals (they are both equally awful, in fact the S Place may have the edge in grubby fluorescent never-quite-clean yukkiness).
    • Follow Souk's wise words and go to Lidl once in a while for their good stuff to combine with good stuff from other places (some of their stuff I wouldn't use, but that's the same as never going in about a third of the aisles in That Place).

I can never get supermarket herbs to last either, especially basil - I think they just get forced in artificial conditions and aren't really equipped to cope with the real world. Am growing pot herbs from seed now instead. Which reminds me, am very impressed with Real Seeds (google them) - seem to be very high quality as well as ethical and remarkably cheap. They do veg and fruit as well as herbs.

Re. cress etc, I have one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Biosnacky-A-Vogel-BioSnacky-Large-Germinator/dp/B001ILWLRU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304538157&sr=8-1 and I love it - dead easy, you just pour the water in the top once in a while, and it means you can have one lot of seeds in as another are sprouting. There are smaller versions too.

Lula I hope you're enjoying new lappie :j

    Hello lovelies,

Rosa - thanks for the grocery tips & sadly, I am not yet enjoying new lappie yet - due for delivery on monday - which is why I didnt post yesterday.

I typed out a lovely long post giving details of all my nearest supermarkets & my plans, hit the backspace button to correct a spelling mistake & stupid stupid pc thought I hit the 'take-me-back-to-the-diary-I-was-reading-previously button':mad::mad:. I got the hump & went to bed instead.

    In short :

all 4 letter shops are at least a 15 mile drive away - not worth the fuel.

There is a morrisons just 5 miles away so a possibility. However, the reasn I use the shops I do is for proximity & convenience reasons.

Local co op is a 5 minute walk away & is great for basic fruit, veg, dairy, meat & booze. Often has random & fab offers ( see details later)

Waitrose is but a mile away & conveniently situated in village with banks, charity shops, boots & train station.

2 x tatco shops within 5 miles, both have fuel stations, one has M&S attached :) & the other is in scary chavstown where fuggs, trackuits & muffins are the dress code - I only ever go there if I have to collect a parcel from sorting office :(

There are 2 x sainsbugs within 5 miles - one near work but annoyingly I've never had time to go there during the day however, this may be about to change ...

The other is in town centre & has no car park so would need to be co-ordinated with a shopping trip to make parking fees worhtwhile. Still havent worked out how to get from car park to shop with bags though, but will give it a try on friday when I go to collect the sad little lappie corspe from the nasty store who I bet are going to try to sell me a new one. Ha, I've beat them to it :p

I hear a lot of good things about sainsbugs & as I hope I can sign up for nectar rewards I may well be shopping there in future. I dont just want cheap shopping, i want rewards too :D.

DD is starting an after school club next week & as it's on a thrusday & I dont do home-job on thrusdays, I reckon I'll have time to go there after work, do shopping & be back in time for when her club finishes.

I try really hard to combine my car trips to save money as well. At the moment I'm managing on just one tank of fuel a month & am trying to stick to that.

I'm also trying really hard to talk myself out of a shiny new white i-phone :o. I know, it's shocking & I'm not really going to buy one now, but might well decide to save up for one .

Since the unexpected cost of a new lappie as well as the unexpected & unrewarding cost of diagnosis of old one has hit my shiny new CC, I find myself spinning wildly back towards Debtsville at a speed that scares me rigid _pale_

What was meant to be a very well thought out plan to purchase a new cooker ( & possibly sofa) on the 0% CC for just a few easily repayable hundred pounds, has now morphed into a monster that fires the balance well over the four figure mark  & will require some serious & sustained effort to clear it within the 0% time frame.

No full figure yet as still need to pay some cash into the bank this week to cover regular spends on the CC. Bank hol has pushed home-job back a day so all out of sync with banking & due to catch up on friday.

Anyway, the point I was making was that inspite of my phone being eligible for an upgrade, a fabby new one will come with a fabby new monthly plan so for now, I'm sticking with my cheap old but perfectly workable old phone & it's cheap monthly cost :).

I needed to do a bread & milk top up today so we went to the co op & rather randomly, they had a half price deal on big 50 wash boxes of powder for £6 & also 2 packs of 9 loo rolls for £6.80, so I actually coudnt resist those bargains as they were both on my list of stuff to buy this week.

Sadly, it does mean I'm over my weekly allowance of £50 as I have now spent £54.35p. I will reduce next week's allowance by £5 to compensate, but overall, it should mean I save a bit of money.

Need my bed now so will return soon with more news,

    G'night
    xx

Well that was a short update :):rotfl:

Has large turnip ready to hurl if hears of 'New white i phone' being bought...and its spiked:eek::rotfl:
Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Yes bob , I have an alternative version of 'short' :p

I also have a rabid fear of spiked turnips so promise to be very good & that no shiny new i-phones will hurl themselves into my shopping basktets, virtual or otherwise.

I did however suggest to Grumpy that he might like to buy me one as a reward for having spent all week in the production unit helping to fulfil an order on time :D. He replied that of course my happines was his main concern but that I should get myself in to the kitchen & make him some more rock cakes before he had to give me a slap:eek::rotfl:

I think he's almost totally recovered after the op now.

I have earned a paltry amount from home-job this week so there'll be no pocket money for me & not a lot for anything else either.

It's been NSD number 3 today so I'm doing ok & it has certainly re-focused my mind.

I've earned another £3 from surveys & I've claimed another £5 amazon voucher although this stupid pc has a mind of its own & has deleted the email with the code I need  ... just hope I can retrieve it.

Still trying to tidy up the CC balance before making it public so more shuffling will be done tomorrow.

Although the amount owing is not the same variety as the previous debt that I was clearing ... I still feel that the shine has been taken off my victorious DFD.

I'll be sticking with the 3 month rule as soon as it's all paid; never borrow more than can be paid off in 3 months & always have 3 months worth of income stashed away. That's the next plan :D

    Bye for now
    xx
