Hello,
Well another nsd today and day at home with baby, oh p60 came today and according to the checker he is due about £1000 tax rebate, im just waiting on him coming home to phone hmrc, he has been on a br tax code for part of the year so wasnt getting his tax free allowance.
Wont count our chickens till they hatch tho eh?
Have done meal plan and shopping list for the next week!
Need to buy baby a passport but have about £400 in his tin of money he got when he was born so he is buying his own passport.
Every time i write here i worry that people i know will read it and know its me, does anyone else feel like this? I think its great to write here to mark my progress and get all my thoughts out of my head that are always running around and get jumbled up.
Hope everyone is well, having a quiet and cheap weekend. XxxApril 2011/ Present£7110.23/ £6757.99Savings Pot - £850.000 -
Good morning lovelies,

Oh has a meeting today to find out what is happening with his job - booo! We reckon he will be temp laid off for a couple of weeks and then taken back on by the new company once they are set up??? Dunno - will hope for the best! X
Going to get baby weighed at the health visitor - he is getting so big!
Will be back for oh job update and plan of action! XApril 2011/ Present£7110.23/ £6757.99Savings Pot - £850.000 -
Ok you sound like a nice person, so please don't take this the wrong way, so here are some random thoughts for you.
To tide you over how about selling your upgraded phones on ebay and use your old handsets?
Babies who have been sleeping through and then don't are probably just having a growth spurt!!! But I am sure he will settle down again soon.
With having an OH in such an unpredictable job, you NEED to be saving money when he is in work so that you have a REAL buffer. What happens if he is laid off for 3 months or 6 months rather than a few weeks? As you yourself said building is very unpredictable at the moment, and yet you have not thought about the financial implications of that.
So being positive that he does go back to work in a few weeks, that when you need to be paying off this debt, and saving an emergency 'out of work' fund. The usual suggested amount is 6 months of gross salary. How about that for a challenge.
I noticed that you mentioned baby needs a passport, can I suggest that a foreign holiday isn't your priority this year, but rather the savings pot above?
And actually when baby is small is the BEST time to scrimp and save. HE won't remember ANY of it before he is 4 at the earliest, so he won't remember new clothes bought every few months - ebay or friends is cheaper, and enables you to save.
How about another challenge? From now until Christmas shop for clothes in your wardrobe! I bet you have lots of things you 'could' wear to the events you have this year, but as they are not new, you have ignored them. But how about changing things around and accessorizing differently for a new look.
Whilst it is very nice that your mum has agreed to have baby for a day to save you on child care can SHE really afford it? I would strongly suggest that you at least give her something to cover her loss of income, so that you are not taking advantage of her good nature.
Ref saving for a mortgage. My nephew saved 30% for his house. Unless you live in the north east of england, 150,000 won't buy you a decent house in a decent area, so that is another thing to do some research into. And another reason you need to focus.
You have also assumed that your job is safe. But that is just not a safe assumption at the moment. Especially if you work for local or national governement.
And no I have no idea which of the 30 million odd women you are in the country, so unless you are very specific about where you live an work, it is anonymous. Even if someone asked if this diary was yours you could just say no!
I am sorry for being so harsh, but I REALLY think you need a reality check.
good luck with debt busing
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

Thanks for that 'reality check' although im not offended i dont remember asking for it? Ill take it with a pinch of salt.
The old phones have been sent to mazuma so this cannot happen.
You are right enough and an out of work pot is required - this will need to begin when my oh goes back to work, the only reason though that it will have such an impact is because i am on maternity pay, under normal circumstances my wage would be enough to scrape by on and pay the bills - which is a point that when i go back to work we can really save and pay off using his wage.
We have been told he will be out of work for 4 weeks but has already lined up a couple of homers and we have 2 more wages and £600 so we'll be ok.
Were going to london for a for a family wedding this is why he needs his passport.
I have bought my son a few things but 99% is gifts as we have very big families.
About my mum - she is more than happy to have him and is at an age. Where she would like to take things a bit easier - i dont think she would be happy if i try to give her anything - you dont know my family or our ways so i dont think you can comment.
In regards to mortgage, i live in scotland and £150,000 will afford us what we need.
In regards to my work, my post is funded till 2015 so i dont worry about that.
Chev - I have just written this defending myself and my actions and have thought that i will always do what is right for me and my family. If i can maybe suggest to you that you are projecting your wants and needs onto me that i must need\ want the same things like a +£150k house, to be debt free asap and a 6 month salary savings pot? This forum can be very faceless at times and you should keep in mind that we all want different things and are willing to sacrafice different things to get them, which i hope you dont take the wrong way.
I will post fresh tomoro as i feel ive taken a bit of a bashing xApril 2011/ Present£7110.23/ £6757.99Savings Pot - £850.000 -
Booboo - (((((((HUGS)))))). Just wanted to say that I really enjoy reading your diary. You and I have some similarities in our lives and some differences, we respond the same way to some of our issues in life and differently in others. That's why I like reading peoples diaries - to learn from them.
Although I understand chevalier must have had good intentions I would have found what was said very difficult and think you responded really well.
Keep up all your good work on your own little journey and good luck with dealing with any challenges you face.
xxWandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! Debts cleared nearly £18k. Now to start saving ...0 -
Thanks loumac, that cheered me up, your right about everyone being different!
I think sometimes when i read other peoples diaries I think of things that they should do and think they make mistakes but i dont see them in their real lives doing the day to day slog so I dont judge or critisize them as were not little mse robots sitting in a blank room just looking at online banking, we have families and problems and hard times.
Some people might say I dont like the 'truth' but its not that, im 23, I have a wonderful family, a great group of friends, a lovely home for my child and ok a bit of debt but a well paid job and make all my payments! You cant worry your life away. I really respect people on here who go all gung ho on their debts but thats not me - and im happy with that.
Am ready for chucking the diary almost but might just have a couple of days off instead! XApril 2011/ Present£7110.23/ £6757.99Savings Pot - £850.000 -
hi, not stalking honestly, we both replied to the same thread, think your doing a really good job, I have up and down days with my diary, and sometimes feel what the heck is the point, but then on the other hand its somewhere I can vent my feelings, my thoughts, good days, bad days, etc, and in all honestly its been a godsend.
Its like a personal reminder, for me march and April I literally paid the bare miminim whereas I always try to overpay, but then i had a holiday, and the difference saved meant another couple of trips.
It was a 40th birthday present, first long haul for my daughter, we've had a rough 6 months, long story, and we loved it, it made me realise yes I have debts, sometimes they feel like a millstone, but coming on here, I know I'm not alone. xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Thanks mum2one, I am very easily distracted and things like that just make me want to quit, i wont though!
Anyways I am going to continue with my diary, i know im only making minimum payments but I think when I go back to work and have my full wage im going to make a go of it.
OH got his car back, so I get mines back cause he had to borrow it to get to work! Although the car is driving the garage said he shouldnt expect it to last too long :0! We need a new one anyway so it might be time to cut our losses and sell it! Its going to cost us more than it could save us.
Baby still wont sleep through the night anymore - I think He has a little cough that is annoying him - we live in hope - one of these nights i'll sleep through!
NSD today - just going to go a little walk instead xApril 2011/ Present£7110.23/ £6757.99Savings Pot - £850.000 -
Don't worry about what other people say, sounds like you are doing a great job to me. I know is hard enough looking after a little one without the added pressure of money worries.
Sorry to hear baby still isn't sleeping through night. We have had lots of problems with ours not sleeping last few nights but made a bit of progress last night. Hope it is a short phase for you.0 -
Hello wendz, hope your getting on well with baba, its hard to get through the days with so little sleep isnt it!
He seems to have started teething so today we went to elc and got him sophie giraffe, the 'must have teether' haha! Was £12.99 but i still had £50 on a gift card from when he was born so that was good!
My OH got paid today and it was more than expected in hours owed so i put £400 in savings - i know thats a bit adventurous but after this weeks bills were left with about £70 - if i need more than that i can take it back from savings! I have that cheque clearing on monday too so savings will be £1000! Yay! But we will need it to get through this period of lay off although i think he will sign on, on monday as i think we should be entitled and weve paid our taxes in so why shouldnt we take what were entitled too?
Will see what the brew think but probs will tell us to get...... Hmmm!
Today has been a good day! Love my boys! XApril 2011/ Present£7110.23/ £6757.99Savings Pot - £850.000
