I think we should all give ourselves a huge pat on the back, not just for our efforts to be frugal, but because of the smashing help, support and advice and harmony we enjoy on this thread. :beer::beer::beer:

I've been reading some of the nasty, and totally unnecessary flaming that newbies have received on various other threads, and just can't understand why some people think that if they've made a few dozen posts, or even a few thousand, that it gives them a divine right to be judgmental, rude, dismissive and blo*dy 'orrible!

If there are any lurkers out there, wondering if they dare dip a toe in the water here, can I assure them that everyone is really helpful, nobody judges anyone for spending anything, or not saving as much as they did, and we're all very nice! :A

    xx
A huge welcome to um, er, can't remember but it was made up of letters, so I'll just call you ABC, and a huge welcome again. :D A big hug of relief to someone who had a nasty ol' scan today, and a virtual hug and kiss to someone who has had a really rough day.

My heart's in the right place but my memory cells have dropped to my feet, I think! Oh the nasty folk that are out there, really makes my blood boil. Heaven help a newbie who posts a link, they are immersed in boiling oil for doing that, and if someone has the temerity to disagree with someone else, it's awful. The words are carefully chosen to be as cutting as possible - rotten ol' lot they are!

Going to vote tomorrow and then DH wants to go to another garden centre tomorrow, so that'll be Mean May turning into Multi-generous May, and it's only the 4th!

    xx

Standra, please do report any posts you see that you consider are nasty and always remember there are many, many more posts on MSE across all the boards in all threads that far out-way any nasty posts.

rising from the ashes, I just received a letter this morning from the Western General for an MRI scan done on my brain on 17 March and it says my brain "was reassuringly normal" :rotfl:

Oh, Minnie! that certainly puts my moment of weakness in I**a in perspective...It sounds as if you're spending because of stress, and stressed because of your spending.

You're putting yourself down so much, no wonder you feel awful. Could you get a friend to come to the carboot with you? A friend who likes haggling and who can be tough. Bribe your friend with some tea and cake, or offer to take her stuff as well, for free.;)

Has he been reading that Guardian article?

aww thank you!!! i think it is also a bit of the too busy worrying about other things to worry about what i am buying!! which is never a good idea!! still got a few medical probs with my brain tumour and although my review with the specialist was positive - there was also some very complicated issues with not such great outcomes which are playing on my mind! But i am desperately trying to get back on track!!! going to spend some time today on my figures etc which i have total lost track of!!! just generally exhausted!

Had some bad news today so feel like carp :(

slow fading sending you great big virtual hugs and love!!

    Morning folks,

I've also been around but not posting as I've been trying to be as frugal as I can but still enjoy life :D

I'm under budget for the year so far, and even came in £25 under budget when I went on holiday last week (Not included in the frugal budget, but entirely paid for with last month's overtime).

I'm doing well with food shopping, but am going to have to make some extra money this month as I've already spent £24 from my "Other" budget which is normally less than £90  It's because I've used voucher websites to buy a meal out for myself and Mr Fresian (£12) and a haircut for myself (also £12) which were both really good deals. I've also found out that I can earn Quidco on each deal which is very good news :D

I'm doing pretty well on groceries. I have a lot of food in the freezer and cupboards, so May is going to be about reducing these stocks I think! My exciting news of recent days is that I have bought some furniture which has allowed me to set up an area in my flat for my crafting. I'm already finding that it's inspiring me to sit down and make cards, so it's money well spent. There's pictures on my homepage if anyone fancies a look :D

I'm really impressed with how well everyone else is doing :T

    Slowlyfading, hope you're ok *hug*

do you think Quidco is worth it? i always forget to check if they do the retailer first, just not sure.perhaps im not in the swing of things!

so full, but it was really nice to splash out for once, spent £20 on food (!) and that was with 20% off! and 99p on a large lolipop for my son who was fab all day.

I finally got through to the tax credit people as well so now I know exactly what money we have to live on.

hi I am new to the forums but have been viewing the main site for 3yrs.

I have had a snoop at some of the other pages and thought this one seemed really friendly.

my aim is to spend the absolute minimum I can get away with as hubby comes out the raf in 2 yrs 8 months:T and would like to have as little debt as possible. In my opinion I quite thrifty but I am sure I can do more!

    Hello fellow frugallers:j
Hugs SF and welcome to paidinchickens.

A frugal day here at Gnat Bottomed Towers- cornered the market in dented tins and torn cereal boxes in Sainsburys and spent a frugal £37ish on the weekly shop which included a few extras. Am pleased with that.

Met chums for coffee at a local cafe today but my loyalty card gave me a free cuppa today so no need to prise open the frugal purse there:rotfl::rotfl:

Have got my friend into watching SS on C4 and she's joined a freebies site. We now have a chuckle over anything we've received in the post and a natter about the money saving tips on SS- I have worked out with my two nail varnishes I have I can paint my toenails red with black spots to look like ladybirds:D Dear oh dear I need to get a life [but I am happy:D]
