    Hi tumptyteapot

I am so impressed with how you always manage to spend so little and yet get so much for it? I was made redundant recently and I am determined to make my redundancy money last as long as possible given the appalling employment market.

Where do I find this reduced section and what time is best to get the bargains? Or any tips that you are happy to share wouldbe gratefully accepted.

This is such an awesome thread. I only wish that I am a fifth of the domestic goddess that you all seem to be.

    Thank you everyone.

That was just a lucky strike :-) Normally after 8pm in the big shops but with the metros it seems to be about 2pm on a Sunday. There is a whole thread on this site about the best time to get reduced things, if you can't find it I'll hunt it out for you :-)
you can ask where the reduced section is - it is normally in the fridge section in the shops I go to.

Ooooo, it is so nice having a birthday (though it's not for a week). :) Taken out for dinner tonight by some friends, and lunch out tomorrow at the Strand Palace Hotel by another friend, so NSDs for me!

Oh I've just seen that it's tomorrow already! Hi Edinburgh Lass hope you're well. :) I absolutely agree with you, the nice helpful posters far outweigh the nasty ones, but this is a luverly site.

Tumpty Teapot, you seem to have elastic fivers in your purse, cos they stretch so much. ;) Hope everyone is well, and I hope everyone has a nice thrifty weekend.

    xx

First week of 'Mean May' gone and I have kept the spends to a minimum. Apart from a tube of toothpaste, I have only bought veggies or things that I needed to turn things I already have into meals for the coming week. Despite having been on this mission to use stuff up for the past few weeks I don't seem to have any more room in the cupboards or freezer, how so?

Today we're having lamb kebabs with mince from the freezer bought last December and we've just scoffed a packet of chocolate biscuits bought for Christmas last year. I've made a Ginger cake which is mostly pantry stuff, trying to use up the huge tin of molasses I bought for Christmas cake (2009). :rotfl:

Fingers crossed, we might see the price of petrol drop off a bit in the next few days after having reached a record high for us this week. I am not far off the empty so I hope they blooming hurry up. Like always there's no rush to drop the price at the pumps as quickly as they put it up, eh?

Thanks tumptyteapot. I will try going to Mr T in the evening and see if I can nab some bargains.

    Hi, anyone use this?

Just tried for the 1st time as home insurance about to expire and renewal quote is up over £70.

Did a quote through GoCom*pare & there were a couple of very cheap ones but M*ore Th*an quoted £159 (+ £20 for legal protection) making it £179.

Forgot about Quid*Co - thought I'd give it a try & £40 cashback with M*ore Th*an but the quote's coming out at £204 with the legal protection.

Any ideas why? (is it 'cos the comparison one isn't a full/proper quote)?

    Ta

    Hi,

We had a similar thing, we'd seen an offer for £80 cashback for insurance so got the quote, then went direct to the company and the quote was £80 less. So the cashback wasn't saving us any cash at all.

    Hello everyone!

Haven't been here for a while - have no internet connection again on my laptop as the dongle has malfunctioned so sharing the girlies. Have been keeping up in the Arms on the Thoughts thread.

Haven't been amazingly frugal except in the food department really. Made the Nigella Gammon in Cola recipe the other day and then the black bean soup so they both did us for a few days.

Need to get back on track with recording my spends - have slipped off the wagon again!

Visited my first foster mother in Hemel Hempstead last Saturday which was lovely. You would never believe she is eighty eight such a sprightly, bright spark. She said she always new she would see me again one day!

Need to get on with the tidying in a minute - very worried about the moth infeststion in my house at the moment as one of my sofas has wool covers!!!

Will read back and catch up with you all soon - love to all! xxx

    Hi Everyone.

    Hugs to SF x

My £12 is now down to £6.98 - I bought more muffins from work cos it was Friday and that's cake day.
We'll have to go out later for a few bits n bobs so that'll probably cost me just under £100 cos it always does when the other 3 come shopping with me.

I went through my food inventory earlier and crossed off the things we'd eaten through the week. There's still a lot of stuff left so I made a short shopping list.

I was hoping the weather might pick up so I can use the washing line, I think the sun's trying to come out so might chance my luck.
