You can use your cashback credit card at Morrison's to buy books of stamps (you could when it was Safeway anyway). I think this is still possible - bought so many this way last time, I still haven't used them all).

My favourite stamp buying tactic is to take all my shrapnel (coppers, 5ps) down to the post office and attack the little stamp machine, pumping it full before taking out stamps.

If you're feeling really cheap, load it up with coppers and when it gets to 20p press the refund button and convert you coppers into slightly more useful change...

    HAHA!

I have an old £1 coin ruined by Cillit Bang that I'm gonna use next time!

I noticed in Costco the other day that they are selling first class stamps on books in bulk at a price that works out at around 26.1p per stamp.

An even bigger chance to save money before the price rise!

I noticed those when I was in store last week but didn't work out costing. Just thought "must remember"! So thanks for the maths - shall buy some later this week:)

All stamps (even ones that say 1st or 2nd or E) can be used on any post as part of the total value, so if you are sending heavier items, you can still send them second class, but stick on loads of 1st class stamps after 7 April and you still save money. Same applies to Europe stamps. They will just have a greater value after 7 Apr. No particular point in buying 2nd class or international stamps since those rates don't appear to be going up. Biggest gain is from first class since that is 2p increase from 28p while Europe increase is 2p from 40p.

You can use stamps that say 28p up until 21st April and they will be put through as first class. From the 21st they will then go as second class. Also, for some strange reason, meter mail is only going up by 1p to 29p so if at work you have a choice between franking a letter or using a stamp, frank it!

Letter franking is when a business buys a "Franking Machine" and a license from the post office and then can use the machine to stamp the letters with a postage paid mark. It's usually on the brown envelopes you get through the post from small/medium sized businesses with red ink circle with the date posted, and a square with the price paid.

    See Royal Mail Franking page

They are expensive machines to buy (£300+), and hassle to top them up, fill with ink / labels and get inspected every year. Only worth it if you are posting 100's of letters a week.

So what is the FINAL answer of where to go buy these stamps?

I want a bunch of 1st and 2nd class ones.
