I agree. I sometimes doubt if the Royal Mail even bother to separate-out 1st and 2nd class, since they both seem equally fast.

they definitely do get separated, and second class post really is second class - it is often delayed as if almost on purpose to make first look better

30p!!!!!!! Crikey, that's nearly as much as schools allocate to feed a child a school dinner.

Like anything, I don't mind paying for a service, if the service is good. Royal Mail is becoming (in my opinion and experience) progressively worse.

I've still never quite understood how I sent my brother a Christmas card Dec 03 and had it returned to me in March 04 with the remark: "Address not found" - they'd had no problem finding it the previous 6yrs! I posted it again the next day ... it arrived at it's destination 2 days later

I think the Royal Mail service is, in the main, incredibly good. Think of the effort it takes to send something from Aberdeen to Devon - all for 30p (or 21p) - damn good value if you ask me!

Looking on the royal mail website, it seems they do different stamps so you proudly advertise your nation...

First class stamps available for Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland... but not England!

    2nd class England?!

I quite agree about using second class post - when you actually stop to think about it, very few of your letters, business or otherwise, actually need to arrive tomorrow, and often won't anyway even if you do post them first class.

Always think twice before sticking on a first class stamp
  • Is there a greater environmental impact if you use 1st class? Would a van be sent out on additional journeys to deliver 1st class, as opposed to waiting for a batch of mail to go together? The other thing is that if we all nip out and buy a load of stamps now, then what we are also doing is giving the Royal Mail a cash injection, with free credit, so we all win.

Unfortunately i don't think ANY store's reward scheme is allowed to include stamps. WH Smith certainly don't give points on stamps, neither do my belove Boots.

Maybe not but I think you can buy them in-store [Woolies f'rinstance] and pay with your cashback credit card & so save up to 1%...! Wow!
I did a similar thing at Superdrug last year after Martin's tip about their selling off stamps at a discount.
Expect the worst & hope for the best...

The England ones just ran out first. Shame because they were the nicest. Those sets were issued a couple of years ago now.
  • Here's a thought: If you're posting something on a Friday to a business you may as well use 2nd class. 1st class would/should be delivered the next day (Saturday) but there will be no one there to process it until Monday.
