The UK is in the Common Travel Area, so no passports are required for Ireland the IoM or the Channel Islands as stated.

The passport price is a con, there is no point in saying its only so much a year, as in the actual cost of making it is a strip for a card reader and a little booklet.

As above, If you had bothered to read the whole thread instead of just trying (and failing miserably) to belittle me with a pathetic attempt at a put down, then you would have seen where I got the information from.

I know, sense of humor's have gone up 200% in cost as well! :rotfl:

your lucky the government is not progressing with ID cards

Yes and no. Yes because the ID cards we were going to get were OTT, expensive, and had civil liberties issues.

No, because if the last government had given us simple (ish) and optional ID cards some people would not need passports.

. Even then it's not 85%, I don't know how they worked that out at all.

Maths has never been a strong point with journalists!

Or trade union officials either, by the look of things....

Unite said that BA cabin crew voted 8 to 1 for a strike.

Their own figures showed that it was 5 to 1 as proportions of votes cast.

If you then look at the percentage who actually voted in the ballot, then 55% of BA cabin crew DIDN'T vote for a strike.

    So 8 to 1 becomes 5 to 1 becomes 9 to 11....

    Anyway, back on topic:

Passport charges are fair. You will realise this if you ever need the services of a British Embassy.

Take Libya or Egypt for example - our government had no obligation to provide free transport for UK passport holders to return home. Why should they? Everyone who was there went voluntarily and of their own choice, USING A PASSPORT.

You could just not bother changing your passport, just make sure you use your maiden name when you book tickets

Is that legal? I mean, if you're now using your married name in day to day life, ie your bank account and your wages/taxes and yet you use your maiden life purely for international travel and don't change your passport; is that not fraud?

    Perfectly legal.

Yes its legal. I managed to travel on mine for 4-5 years after getting married. The only requirement is that the flights are booked in the maiden name. You still own the rights to use your maiden name if you wish. I used to know someone who uses their maiden name for work purposes and married for banking and personal uses (It was very confusing when her garage rang in asking for Mrs X when we knew her as Ms Y).

My wife renewed her passport because she wanted to be known by her married name from day 1. Some people aren't bothered, and others adamantly want to keep their maiden name.

But we viewed the renewal as part of our wedding expenses.

I have booked my honeymoon in my maiden name. But don't I still need to change my passport to my married name eventually as I am taking his name, so might as well do it when I get back?
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

You can obtain a passport in your married name up to three months before you get married but the passport will be post-dated to your wedding day.

This can create problems if you need to get a Visa for your honeymoon, as some countries do not issue visas for post-dated passports.
