Olias,
Do your parents qualify for a passport from any other country apart from the UK?
A couple of years ago I decided to get a 2nd passport and as my mother is Irish, I also qualified for an Irish one.
This is slightly cheaper than a UK issued one (€80), but is free if the applicant is over 65 years of age.0 -
I can understand renewal, but I have a 10 year passport and need to change the name...costs the same as a brand new one!!
I will have this problem next year when I get married and by then my 10 year passport is only 3 years old, so I am a bit annoyed about that!:mad:No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T0 -

True but at least changing the address and your name is free on your driving licence. I don't get why they can't charge you a small fee for changing your name instead of having to pay a renewal fee again! No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

It's annoying you have to ask to have your passport stamped when you go away around Europe, I like to have it stamped for memories. In Malta, they refused to stamp it!No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Don't be silly, of course you're allowed to give your opinion - just as I am.
I KNEW it was a 'jokey rant' by the use of :rotfl:and the words used, so it didn't go over my head.
But you STILL don't have to like the new design or layout.0 -

less that 100 quid is a bargain for unlimited access around our entire planet.
i believe there is a case for making them 1000 pounds each but not everyone will agree with that.Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)
new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,0000 -
OK, to all those who love giving their money away, and are happy for costs to spiral upwards way ahead of inflation to pay for poor financial descision making and mistakes by the government because you consider it 'good value' and passports are a luxury and therefore are happy to pay. Would you think the same way if the TV license were to go up 85% in 4 years, making it 269.17, after all that is only 73p a day, not much more than the cost of a newspaper - must be good value.................
Olias
I got my passport about 5 years ago.
It was over £60 then. May have even been low £70.
It was no way costing £11.55 when i bought it.
Your rant is based on a 85% cost increase. If this was the case then i would agree with you. However based on what I paid its probably inline with inflation, so I can not really moan about that.
If it is a stealth tax. It was stealth tax in the past as well.0 -

"unlimited access around our entire planet". Are you sure about that?
The only country a UK passport is guaranteed to allow access into is the UK.
Just about all other countries are totally within their rights to deny entry to a UK passport holder and they don't have to give any reason why.
Even when you do visit other countries, there are many of these that still require UK passport holders to have a visa (which can sometimes cost many hundreds of £s, and other countries that have strict limits on the times you can remain there, so in both of these cases, the PP itself certainly doesn't allow unlimited access0
