Would you think the same way if the TV license were to go up 85% in 4 years
I think you need a new calculator.
UK passport fees. (for a standard passport with a normal speed processing service)
2005. £42
2006. £51
2007. £66
2008. £72
2009. £72
2010. £72
2011. £77.5
Up from £66 to £77.5 in 4 years. (An increase of 17.42%) Not even close to 85%0 -
your lucky the government is not progressing with ID cards0

No that poster won't buy them. They worked out calculators had gone up 143356% in price so they won't buy one!0 -

Not sure where those figures are from as you don't provide a link to verify them. I am only going of information from the site quoted from a previous poster - http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/bargains-and-rip-offs/ask-an-expert/article.html?in_article_id=508869&in_page_id=513 - If that is incorrect, then apologies, but I can only go on the information I have to hand!Money_User wrote: »No that poster won't buy them. As above, If you had bothered to read the whole thread instead of just trying (and failing miserably) to belittle me with a pathetic attempt at a put down, then you would have seen where I got the information from.

There are lots of websites showing the prices over the years and they all appear to give the same figures.
This one for instance
http://www.workpermit.com/news/2006_07_25/uk/passport_fee_rise.htm
Shows the 2006 price at £51 and states it is going up to £66
Even the governments own websites confirm these figures
This is the best one, as it is a UK government document clearly showing the cost of an adult passport for 2006, 2007 & 2008 at £51, £66 & £72 respectively.

Im allways getting my old passports out and re reading the old stamps.
Sometimes i enjoy it more than waiting for Countdown to start.
I am glad I am not the only one, my other half shakes his head when I ask. They have always done it until Malta where they refused to stamp it, very annoying! No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T0 -

That article is poorly worded and punctuated.
It should read that there has been an 85% increase over the last 4 years for people who have renewed their expired 10 year old passports. Even then it's not 85%, I don't know how they worked that out at all.
Here's more historical prices and what they were for. Perhaps you don't think we need any improvements to security and anti fraud measures? But I'm sure the majority of us who do want to reduce the risk of terrorist attacks and illegal immigration can understand the increases.- £77.50 – 3 September 2009 – an increase which the Government said was necessary due to a falling number of passport applicants, and also to pay for enhanced passport security measures. The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats said that people were paying for the price of introducing ID cards.[29][30]
- £72 – 4 October 2007 – due to an increase in the consular premium added by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office [31]
- £66 – 5 October 2006 – for the introduction of the latest generation passport, anti-fraud measures and interviews for first-time applicants [32]
- £51 – 1 December 2005 – to reflect the cost of implementing key anti-fraud measures [33]
- £42 – 2 October 2003 – to pay for new anti-fraud measures [34]
- £33 – 21 November 2002 [35]
- £30 – 14 January 2002 [36]
- £28 – 16 December 1999 – to fund a major overhaul of the Passport Agency following the summer crisis [37]
- £21 – 26 March 1998 [38]
- £18 – November 1992

Many OAPs struggle to pay for essentials in life, like food & heating.
If they can afford a holiday abroad every year they can afford the passsport IMO.0 -
The bulk of the increases in policing national borders has fallen on the visa applicants with visa fees increasing at a greater rate than the passport fees.0
