Passport costs

I have booked my honeymoon in my maiden name. But don't I still need to change my passport to my married name eventually as I am taking his name, so might as well do it when I get back?
The only stipulation usually is that the name on the ticket must match that on the passport.
So providing you book in your maiden name, you should technically be ok to keep your passport in your maiden name until the 10 years is up. Some airlines will accept married name on booking and maiden on passport if a marriage certificate is provided but easier to book the holiday in the name on the passport tbh.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Anyway, back on topic:
Passport charges are fair. You will realise this if you ever need the services of a British Embassy.
Take Libya or Egypt for example - our government had no obligation to provide free transport for UK passport holders to return home. Why should they? Everyone who was there went voluntarily and of their own choice, USING A PASSPORT.
I half agree with this- if I was ever lucky enough to go on a foreign holiday I have a list of safe places- all the trouble in the last few years has happened outside my list, lol.
But, there are always exceptions so I wouldn't fully agree.0 -
I am sure you may have a little point, however we are talking about passports not a tv licence £77.50 to renew a ten year passport what's the problem ?.£49 for a child? I am sure many cant see what your gripe is because you have not got a valid one . The cost of a passports is good value for money unlike the TV licence however I am sure we have many who think the tv licence is good value for money . Anyway if the cost of the holiday cant be afforded due to the cost of the passport you/they cant afford to go abroad on holiday in the first place and oliver letwin would be pleased about that.0

Passports are over priced end of.
How do you know? Have you done a detailed breakdown of the cost of producing a passport? You'd need to take into account staff wages, all facilities management costs such as heating and lighting, providing things like water, toilet facilities etc. for the Passport Office premises. You'd need to include staff training, cost of materials, cost of carriage, data security, all tools and resources the staff might use, e.g. computers. This is just a quick list off the top of my head; there are probably many factors I've forgotten.
I suspect that 'Passports are over priced end of' simply means 'Passports cost more than I'd like to pay'."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

This can create problems if you need to get a Visa for your honeymoon, as some countries do not issue visas for post-dated passports.
Simple solution: don't change your name. It's the 21st century, fgs"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Now that is the most ridiculous counter argument I have ever heard!
I pay taxes, but...
I don't use the bus or train, why should I subsidise public transport.
I don't have children, why should I subsidise schools and colleges.
I'm not a steel worker/production line worker/car plant worker (insert, pretty much any job), why should I subsidise these industries
I'm not a woman, why should I subsidise womens health services.
....................
Do you see the flaw in your argument:p

Ahhh but you were a child once
Seriously though, I don't think people are going out of their way to disagree with you OP, and they're not being nasty with it either. You have to accept that you'll encounter people who disagree with you on occasion.
I agree with you that it seems expensive (but I don't know how much a passport costs to make and how much time is involved, so it's hard to say), but I agree with fluffnutter entirely. Going abroad is not a right, it's a privilege. There are plenty of lovely places you can visit in the UK and if they desperately want to go abroad, they'd save up for their passports this year and go on holiday next year.
I know how it feels not getting a holiday. I've been abroad twice, once with my family as a teenager and once as an adult. I'm happy I got those opportunities, and I'd love to see more of the world. However this year I can't afford it, as all the money I had saved for this year's holiday has gone on a surprise bill instead. I'm not going to let that bother me because there's no point- I'll just have a few day trips somewhere in the UK instead.0
