ok started a full scan using Malware, I guess that'll take about an hour and a half to 2 hours.

    Once again, thanks for helping.

Wait, what antivirus were you running before you installed Microsoft Security Essentials?

Use Appremover (www.appremover.com) to completely remove the above security software if you choose to. Afterwards, run the "check for failed uninstall" option to make sure all remnants are gone. Follow Closed's guide to speeding up your PC.

Use Revo Uninstaller to remove Rapport (http://download.cnet.com/Revo-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10687648.html).

Don't worry so much about cookies. Any software that alerts you about cookies is just using scare tactics. What browser are you using?

Hi Russ, I still have Spyware Doctor running and MSE at the moment. I don't know if Windows Defender was working, I think years ago some updates failed and it stopped working but not sure. that's when I got Spyware Doctor and have just been actively running that since till just recently when I put that MSE thing on.

My Spyware Doctor subscription ends in May and I wasn't going to renew. I haven't uninstalled anything yet.

As I said to Closed, I am just worried about these cookies because I can't delete them and my coockie file fills up so fast (250mb's) my pc has been freezing up within about 5 mins. The little green lights on my modem go like the clappers! The scroll bar on the cookie file is about a millimeter thick and even using "select all" they come in faster than I can delete them. Most of the cookies were MSN so I've blocked that site and it hasn't been so bad since.

Not sure what else I can add. Going to read the other thread now but I'll keep checking back here and on the full scan I'm doing using Malware thingy.

Thanks again all for your help.

If it's Spyware Doctor "with Antivirus" then you don't want to be running Microsoft Security Essentials at the same time. You probably don't even if its just Spyware Doctor realtime 'spyware' guard alone.

It's been a long time since I briefly tried it out, but I still hear that Spyware Doctor is a memory hog that will slow your computer's performance down. Running it with another piece of software (MSE) that does the same job will definitely give you performance issues, and possibly system instability. I suggest you turn off the realtime protection of Spyware Doctor and use it just for manual scans, and only use the realtime protection of MSE since it's already there. This will give you a huge performance increase I bet.

Windows Defender will be turned off by default now that MSE is running.

I don't know what to make of what you say about the cookies. Perhaps double check your connection settings in what I'm assuming is internet explorer: Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings and make sure it looks like this:

follow advice and link in post 5, it's full of bloat Reading this now between flitting from full scan to this thread.

uninstall rapport Haven't done this yet. It will be next on my list of things to do.

tick and fix all the O16's (done this) and (file missing)'s (and this)and (no file)'s (missed this as was doing the others before this bit was posted. Will do it shortly) using hijackthis

Did you install Free Ride Games? (I don't think so!)

    Thanks again.

    uninstall free ride games.

you can do everything apart from step3 while malwarebytes is scanning, but avoid reboots until it has finished

what's your commit charge and installed ram?

Hi again, sorry I got froze up again because my cookie file filled up again.

I've had to restart the full scan with Malware again! Doh! I've shut down Spyware Doctor now and am just running MSE atm.

The Spyware Doctor application I was running was just the realtime protection one without the "Antivirus" (you had to pay more for that).

I've just run another Highjack this thingy again and checked and fixed the "no names" and "missing files" ones.

    I've uninstalled Free Ride Games.

Rapport didn't show on the add/remove list. I'm pretty sure I uninstalled that within a couple of days of installing it because my pc started to run much slower then.

One other thing, my pc boots up ok but it (or something) seems to turn off the protection programmes I had running so I unplug from the net first before shutting down and likewise boot up and wait for the protection to start running before plugging into the net.

Oh, and whilst boot up isn't too slow, when I click on an icon (shortcut) to open a web browser it takes ages. I mean like it has taken up to 10 mins to load! Opening my browser just now took about a minute.

I have 512mb RAM installed and a 80gb HDD which is 80% free. Last night I upped my virtuall memory from 600(and something) to the max 1332mb (which also seemed to help with speed.

Once my browser is open the speed for opening other tabs is ok and for like refreshing pages and stuff.

If I think of any other info I think will help, I'll post it.

I really think it's got something to do with those rogue cookies even though I know they're not supposed to be harmful.

    Thanks again.

My advice would be to uninstall spyware doctor and mse asap, install avast, and post your commit charge.

where are these cookies appearing? ccleaner will wipe all cookies.

are you using msn messenger? close it.

My LAN settings is the same as that.

Just deleted my cookies just using the delete button and it took 30 seconds to delete whatever has dowloded in the 15/20 mins I've been online!

I hate cookies! I'm more a savoury girl than a sweet girl!

Cookies are all pouring into the Temporary Internet Files place.

As I said earlier, before I put MSN.com on the banned list my Temporary Internet Files folder would fill up within 10 mins and my pc would freeze! Most of the MSN cookies were "Image - catalogue image1" "image2" "image3" etc. and there were loads of them!

I'll have to keep deleting the cookies so my pc doesn't freeze again before the scan is finished! It's going to be a long night!!

Sorry forgot to ask, how do I find out what my commit charge is?
