This is normal.....you get what you pay for.....reasonable shredders will auto-stop when nothing is being fed into it, preventing this.....my Rexel is brilliant at this....my pretty box Fellowes which was FIVE times the price was crap at it and the Asda one didnt botherStevie Coppell's record breaking blue and white royal army - championship winners 2005-60 -

Went back to the Big W on friday they had two shredders the GDC, GHB...(some three letter brand) still priced £29.99 cuts 3 sheets at a time and the only one i had seen here until today. There was also a woolworths own brand deluxe model priced £14.99 which cuts 4 sheets at a time although within 5 seconds of me seeing it somebody picked up the only one.
Can somebody please confirm that it is the GBC (or similar three letter brand) which was recommended by which?.0 -
A GBC Shredmaster 555x did fairly well in the Which tests, though the three they recommended were a £50 Ryman, a £40 HSM, and the Woolies £15 PS-024/B.
Think I'm going to go for the last, although my Plymouth store didn't have any on the shelf yesterday think it'll be worth paying the delivery charge.0 -
thanks to this thread i went out last week and bought the woolies one for £14.99.... have already shredded over a hundred sheets and still going strong..... now need to buy another one for my aunt....0

W H Smiths have just reduced their cross-cut shredder, down from £29.99 to 14.99. Stocks seem to be limited in store, (mine sold out the sale day) but the price has now gone down online. Quidco will give you an extra £1 back.
Hope this is of use to someone.I do hope you're telling the truth?0 -
hey, this is not new news, thats why i bought mine, as someone else in this thread told us about it a couple of pages back...0
-
It's a new item - the previous 1/2 price ones were translucent thingys - these are black/grey new stock items, price dropped on the website yesterday.
With the previous model WHSmiths periodically seemed to do them at 1/2 price for a week or two and then bump the price back up.
If memory serves it also shredded credit cards and accepted staples (I don't think the strip cut one @ £9.99 does).
Looks suspiciously similar to the Woolies one I think, so it might help if your local WW store is out of stock.I do hope you're telling the truth?0 -
Bought one of the "Texet" crosscut shredders from Wilkinsons.
Lasted less than 5 minutes - second lot of paper through and it jammed solid.
No reversing, just dead. So one to avoid perhaps.
Oh, and this one replaced a Fellowes one that busted up internally after pretty light use - not getting another of those either.0 -
People,
it is not just a case of trying to find the cheapest cross-cut shredder, you also need to ensure that it matches what you are shredding. Yes cross-cut shredders make it harder for some to try an reassemble your shredded document than using a strip-cutt shredder but you need to take notice of what the DIN security rating is on these machines.
ID theft experts recommens that a shredder with at least a DIN security rating of level 3 is used when shredding documents such as bank statements, bills or confidential work files.
A simply overview is available at:
