I don't have children but this 'fad' hasn't reached any of my friends or family with them... the covered in mud/glitter/play doh fad doesn't seem to be disappearing quick though... perhaps there's a market in covering shoes in those? :rotfl:

You certainly can't beat mud, much nicer.

Agreed. Muddy children are almost always happy children.

I wonder if it started with those hideous Lelli Kelly shoes that seem to be all the rage now? (although admittedly these are for older toddlers and probably not as lethal..)

wow, awful! Just googled and they generally cost around £45, do people really buy them and for that much

I like the idea of play doh shoes, at least they'd smell nice :rotfl: No one i know in real life has blinged children, not that they are admitting to anyway :rotfl::rotfl:

    Ugh, they're still ugly!

I'd not buy any of this for a baby and if I saw someone who had I'd laugh

I'm sorry to drag this up, and it's not that relevant, but I'm hoping some of you still care.

Take a Break magazine have featured this practise in their "your brainwaves" page - their tips on what to do!

I wanted to spoil my little girl, but didn't have a lot of spare cash. I bought some cheap body jewels in pink, white and silver and superglued them on to her hairbrush, comb and bottle lids. Now all her things are fit for a princess

If, like me, you think this is a stupid idea then email them at tab.brainwaves@bauer.co.uk to let them know this is a choking risk.

Surely it depends on the age of the child?

Are the bottles, drinking bottles for baby milk, or bottles on a dressing table?

I read the mag yesterday, it was a babies bottle that was decorated.

I will email them now, this thread came to mind when I read it!

A blinged baby drinking bottle is potentially lethal.

    I have just sent this:
    Sir,
I was incredibly disappointed to read a tip in your brainwaves section about adding jewels to items used by a baby, the image you used was actually of a child's bottle.
Trading standards have been campaigning for some time against this practice as it poses a severe choking hazard for babies and small children so I was amazed to see your magazine encouraging this practice. I refer you to a link highlighting the dangers of 'blinged' dummies:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-17223147

And a further link from BBC News and Trading standards which also includes baby bottles, much like the one pictured in the section:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-15985469

I find it hard to believe that a credible magazine like Take A Break can publish a tip which could in effect lead to the death of a baby or small child and I sincerely hope that you will publish a warning against this tip in your next issue and donate any money the author should have received to a children's charity.
    Sincerely
    Pullip
