Happy Easter all. Just popping a nose in from South of France. Sounds like you are having better weather than us :)

GC has gone out the window - doing the shopping/cooking for all 7 of us. Will be reimbursed but it will be divided equally not based on the fact that there are 2 females eating salads etc and 5 blokes eating anything that stands still. I can't BELIEVE how much bread and cheese they get through.

On the bright side. NSD today and tomorrow as everything is closed. Need to work out how to feed everyone until Tuesday morning though. Quite a fun challenge.

(((hugs))) and spoons to all in need.

I've lost one of my receipts from yesterday as had a tidy this morning, but I think it was around £4.00 - I know I was charged twice for something in Morrisons as noticed it last night (grr!) It was some bread rolls reduced to 49p, but I was charged 49p and the original price of £1.19. It's too far to go back, but still annoying. I did buy some other bits on Friday, but they're for a BBQ at my dad's today, so they won't be included.

£2.72 spent in Tesco last night on onions, potatoes and hot cross buns.

Just having a break from pottering about in the garden and putting my newly received tomato plants into pots.

My lovely Dad (who I sadly live 200 miles away from) has ordered me a load of vegetable (plug) plants from Jer$ey Plants D!rect bless him :)

He's old school (78) with no pc, so it was all done via post from a catalogue, and he can't quite remember exactly what he's ordered for me, lol. He thought he ordered 6 Tomato Plants, 6 Bell Pepper, 6 Aubergine, 4 Cucumber & 2 Courgette, but so far I've received 12 Tomato Plants - 6 standard and 6 cherry. He says he didn't order any cherry tomatoes, so who knows what I'll eventually end up with.

I had intended to try my hand at growing a pepper plant and a tomato plant this year, but with DD not getting any better, I decided now was not the time to try something new. Well all that has changed! :rotfl: Looks like at the very least I'm going to have 24 plants to care for - and I've never grown any vegetables in my life! So it'll be a steep learning curve, but fun I hope :)

That is soooooooooo sweet of your dad Hippeechiq, Dinny worry I will help you. I'm a plant 'freak' lol . I love growing stuff. I was down in my greenhouse this morning potting up bedding plants. Maybe it would be a good idea to try and involve your DD, ask her to help you, by looking up how to care for them on the net etc /library and with watering /feeding etc, it may be something you can enjoy together.
The cherry tomatoes do well in hanging baskets if you have any. (if you don't let me know and I will send you a couple, I have lightweight ones). You will need a couple of hooks or two brackets , I've seen these for about £1 each in A**A/ T***o etc I planted three cherry tomatoes per basket, and had hundreds of fruits. M*******S have 8 black florists tubs for 99p each ( they are deep and great for all the veg you mentioned), you need to make holes in the bases for drainage, but they are great.
I wish you great joy from your wonderful gift, you may not realise yet just how wonderful it is. PM me your address and I will send you a few bits and bobs you will find useful. LOVE AND LIGHT! xx

  • Hi everyone, Im too late to join this month but Id love to join you next month if thats ok?
For the rest of this month Ill read through all the recipes and the thread to get some ideas of how to save a bit of money. My biggest problem is we seem to pop to the shops every day so I need to stop that because we always end up getting more than we went for and its costing far more than it should for the month and its also making us fatter and fatter!!

I think Ill be joining the losing weight the old style way thread too!

I finally bought a chest freezer!! I found one in J0hn L3wis at £189 A+ energy, apparently made by Electrolux (Zanussi/AEG) and it is just the right size for me too (55cm W and 60cm D). They have an offer of £20 off in JL items, so I paid £169 and they deliver on Thursday (del is included). I thought it was an amazing deal. :D I can't wait to start freezing bread and meat offers!!

Aaaaaah. My 2nd pack of 'salmon' for salmon with olives and pesto for tomorrow night has turned out to be hake. Note to self. Do NOT rely on the picture on the pack. Check the french.

So, although there are technically 8 salmon fillets to go between 7, they are quite small for hungry men. Will have to do extra potatoes and salad. Unfortunately no chance of getting more, and we are going to run out of bread. Grrrrr.

But, have found a recipe to use the hake for some on the BBQ we are planning for Tuesday when weather is supposed to be good. Most will prefer to be carnivorous, but I'll enjoy it. Then I'll have to use the rest up later in the week. Anyone got any ideas for disguising it and persuading them to eat it?

Hi everyone, well we bought more food yest so prob overbudget this month as we still have a few days to go til end of month.

As we are no longer bulk cooking things like spag bol, chilli etc, does anyone have any ideas of what 'Summer' foods can be bulk cooked? Soups are the only thing I can think of... maybe making potato salad in a large batch (but would prob only last 2 days or so).

Any ideas much appreciated and have a lovely Easter Sunday all.
