It should work on 98, Me, 2000 and XP.
By the way, if any of you have bought the DVD edition of Computer Shopper, hidden away in the Office section of the 'Expert Toolkit' is an app called pdfFactory Professional, which apparently lets you create PDFs for free from any other application. Haven't used it, though, so I don't know if it's any good.0 -
Joey_82 wrote:Does anyone know if you get this PC-version cd or dvd of Quark 5, can you then upgrade to Quark 7 for a Mac, or would it have to be the PC version again? And is it really worth getting the DVD over the CD?
According to the small print in the mag, you can only upgrade to the PC version, not the Mac - I guess Quark are worried about their huge Mac user base getting the latest version for £500 less than the RRP...
As for getting the DVD version over the CD version, it's basically the same but includes a load of extra software - some of which is useful, most of which isn't. It's got stuff llike OpenOffice on it, which is basically the same as Microsoft Office but free.0 -
In two newsagents and one supermarket I find they are still selling the December issue. Asking for the January one just gets me funny looks. How come you can get it but here it 'isn't available yet' ?0

Hi,
Could you tell me where that was? There's obviously been a problem with our distribution, which I will look into.

Any ideas? Something in properties of Adobe Reader? (V7 by the way.) Thanks in advance.
Adobe is probably no longer your default pdf reader. If I were you I'd junk the clunky Acrobat and get eXPert PDF Reader instead:

It's faster and there are no annoying "upgrade" reminders.0 -

Welcome to Mse Steve, there are lots of new fans of the magazine on here now!
My firm has just spent thousands upgrading Quark, the IT manager couldn't believe it when I told him to get down to Asda pronto.
Lots of magazines and newspapers are produces on older versions than this.
It's about time you put Photoshop on the front cover too!!!!!!!!;)0 -

Hi
Basically it's a single user license, so each copy can only be legally installed on one PC at a time. If you want it on another PC, uninstal it from the first PC before putting it on the new one.
There is also something called a multi user license, this means one code, but it's legal to put it onto X machines (depending on how many users you paid for, this normally brings the unit price down). But that would need to be purchased from Quark or one of it's distributers.
Welcome Steve from Computer Shopper, congratulations on such an amazing offer.
Georgiac, don't forget each company is restricted to 2 copies.0 -

Thanks - we've had a great response to this promotion. Quark have never done anything like this before, and we were obviously very pleased that they chose to do it with us.
You can set your IT manager's mind at rest about upgrading Quark - the licence is limited to two installations, so I'm afraid he wouldn't have been able to do the whole company.
Now, I'll just get on the phone to Adobe about cover-mounting Photoshop...
By the way, if anyone else has any problems getting hold of a copy of the mag, please let me know (steve_haines@dennis.co.uk). If you have any problems with the installation, check out the cover disc forums at https://www.computershopper.co.uk and our publishing unit may be able to help.

Well this will bring in a nice amount of Christmas money hey Computer Shopper! I think I might produce my own cd (songs is all I could manage), like everyone else just before Christmas! Then run off with the money to New York for the New Year!
