If I finally got hold of one of the old computer shopper quark cd's that I want to send to a relative abroad, can I jsut give them the serial number on the disk and have them register it without the actual disc (just in case the disc won't arrive by the Jan 25th deadline)? Or do they actually need to have possession of the disc in order to complete the registration in time?

I'm pretty sure you need to do it from the disk. Why don't you register it for them and then send them the disk and forward to them the confirmation e-mail. I'd wait until you get the e-mail before you send the disk though - just in case you need to redo it.

You could email them the CD key and the registration number and they can register online themselves. You don't need the actual CD to do the registration. The registration just gives you a serial number and then they can use that serial number whenever (doesn't have to be by January 25) to install.

Thanks for your replies. What's the difference between CD key and registration number? The one number I can see is the one on the CD - is tthat both a cd key and registration number in one?

I missed the boat on this one, does anybody have one of these cover CDs or DVDs that I could buy please? I've tried eBay with no luck.

    Thanks in advance

I just look at PC mags to see what freebies they have.
They have given quark out a few times (different mags) + others.
Computer Arts/Projects give out free photo type software, and Freehand (similar to illustrator). 3D software too - they are very useful!

I scan the mags and see which one I want - prices range from £3 to £5.99 but definately worth it!

Good point Wiggynut, I'll have a look in the shops.

It's Quark specifically I'm looking for, OH is a journo, want a 'free' version for home PC to enable freelance work.

Anybody got one I can buy? Don't really want to spend £500 on the latest version...
