Gonna have to bump this thread to share more ranting!!

Was in a queue for the till in Asda today when a woman behind us put 4 packs of baby wipes on the conveyer and walked off. A second later another couple pulled up behind and waited before putting their shopping on seeing the other items on the till (I wonder if they though me and my partner were paying for things separately?) After this the original lady appeared with her trolley and pushed past to get to her baby wipes and started emptying her trolley with another woman, presumably her mother. So effectively this ignorant cow 'reserved' her place in the queue to go and get some more shopping. I couldn't believe how someone could have the audacity to reserve a place in a queue, the other couple moved to the next till. Perhaps I'm too impolite but I would have told this woman where to go.

After we'd packed our stuff the older woman stood in front of the chip and pin machine before we'd paid. She didn't even move when my partner went to use the machine and stayed exactly where she was when I went to use it. I deliberately took my time and stood shoulder to shoulder with her, I made sure to give her daggers as I'd left. I still wish I'd turned round and reminded her about personal space.

I never understood how anyone feels they can act like that, it's ignorant and completely rude, and to top it off someone didn't give me a 'thank you' wave when I let them pull out of a space.

I'm gonna just stop being nice to people

sounds ike something thats the norm for asda, if anyone were to stand too close to me when im entering my pin or even stand in front of the chip and pin id stand there until she moved out the way

theres no need to act like idiots so why do people do it,

ok heres another that happens to me quite regular - every time it is by a older woman, not the same woman all different women but never the less the same horrible tactic is used.

I stand in the queue, i see from the corner of my eye a older woman who will NOT stand behind me, instead she will stand shoulder to ribcage (i'm usually taller than them) with me, as the queue progresses i see her taking more steps forward until i am nearly at the checkout, she has wriggled her way slowly IN FRONT of me, shopping basket also in front of me but still she is standing to the side, occasionally they will start to unload before me.

I find it irritating, rude and always think to myself when i first notice the side line creeper out of the corner of my eye, "oh man, another older lady who has no concept of queues or waiting her turn" and i am usually right, they nearly always try to get to the checkout before me, such behaviour makes me wonder if they have done this all their life, and this is quite a common thing for me it happens nearly every time i'm in the queue. Maybe i'm the only one, but i doubt it.

You're not the only one. They normally spend their time complaining to all and sundry about the rudeness of others.
  • Widelats, I get that when I am queuing in Tesco regardless of whether I am in my work uniform or not.

I hate the people who have to stand really close to me so I can practically feel their breath on my neck and then when I take a step forward to step away from them, they follow! They always seem to queue behind me at the Customer Service Desk.. arrgh.

I also hate people who swap the cheaper eggs for the more expensive eggs. I catch them doing it all the time. I always tell them off for it because they are technically ripping us off by buying a dozen eggs at 89p ish but the eggs inside are from the egg sets worth £1.50 or more.

This is the first time I've ever heard of anyone doing that! Do people really do that?:(

I don't get people trying to shove past me when I'm in Aldi, because I always have a trolley behind me and the lanes are too narrow. I do hate people who crowd me when I'm trying to put in my PIN and pay. My method is to ask them to move, politely. Most people will move, but there are those who don't. Them, I will stare daggers at till they get uncomfortable and shuffle backwards.

I also hate when I'm in a queue and I can feel someone breathing on the back of my neck. Why do people need to stand that flaming close? Especially as I have a pet peeve about my personal space being invaded.

not a Tesco queue, but a pub carvery. It's quite busy and the queue is reasonably long with about 10 people in front of me. OH is behind me and behind him is a woman who is a 'queue pusher'. You must know the type, if 3" of open space isn't closed up she starts getting annoyed and leaning on the person in front. Well as the queue is moving forward OH takes his time, pointless bunching up as nobody is going anywhere. She's getting more and more annoyed and OH is getting more and more amused.

At one point OH strides forward and stops dead causing her to run nose first into his back. This went on for the 20 minutes we were stood. I'll swear she had steam coming out of her ears when she finally got her lunch :)

Yes I am afraid so. It is also bad because the best before dates are different on each brand. I know that some of us do the water float test but there are naive customers out there who don't know about that.

I work on the Hot Deli on a Sunday and I am always catching people opening the bags to look inside. Disgusting! It's not done as much now due to the bags becoming more seethrough and customers being able to see but still, who wants to buy a chicken if another customer has opened it to peek inside?

I tend to waste them if I have spotted a customer doing it but there are other times where the cabinet doesn't have a staff member nearby to tell them to not do it.

    That is annoying.

And there is the other side of the coin: People who leave enormous gaps and won't move forward so that those behind are unnecessarily blocking the aisle behind the checkouts.

It seems that some people just go into a daze when they are at the supermarket checkout, completely oblivious as to any annoyance they may be causing others. Like the people to whom it comes as a complete surprise when they are asked to pay for their purchases.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.
  • Yes, I can't stand the people standing too close behind me either. My quiet revenge is to take a step backwards and stand on their feet and say 'Oh sorry, I didn't realise you were there'. I've never yet had abuse as they're speechless with pain and they know they were too close anyway. Its the only way they will learn. I gave up with the dagger looks, they're too thick to realise why.

  • I hope Mr M isn't Morrisons!? That's the ultimate in scum! I'm changing job soon and can't wait to be closer to Tesco instead of Morrisons :D

I'm bored of the queue barging, the confusion of why the cashier needs the item to scan, the banana scrapping, the morons on the car park, the people that sing to themselves on the way round (!!!!!!?!) and getting hit with a trolley cuz they want to stand where I'm standing!

I'm going to have a heart attack now.....
