A lot of you are complaining about children
Some people have no choice but to bring their children grocery shopping - it's not their fault.
I'm originally from Australia and in my area where I grew up pretty much all the shopping centres had creches where you could drop your kid off for an hour or so while you did your shopping. Why don't they introduce something like that over here in the UK?0 -
Why don't they introduce something like that over here in the UK?
1/ The cost involved in setting it up.
2/ The cost of staffing it.
3/ The requirement for all staff to have to undergo full criminal record searches so they can work with children.
4/ the time and effort required to ensure that all current health and safety legislation is complied with.
5/ The costs involved for the insurance and compensation when a child get injured or when a parent claims this happened.
There are probably plenty of other costs, all of which will either have to be covered by the shops (not very likely), a charge made to the parents (also not very likely), or more probably passed onto the rest of the customers in higher prices.0 -

I'm sure there was an Asda near my parents that did this. In fact, loads of places have/had creches, but I don't see them around as much now.0 -
My supermarket vent is about my husband...
When we are doing the food shop together, please FOLLOW me with the trolley. It really annoys me when I am going along picking things up and I turn round to put them in the trolley and you're not there!!!
Also, STOP putting c r a p in the trolley when you think I'm not looking :rotfl:0 -
I've noticed this as a 30-something man! I try and put a divider at the end of my shopping, it's the best thing. Also I move the dividers up the slider so they can be reached by those after me.
You should try what I do.
If I can't reach the dividers and the person in front hasn't had the courtesy to put one on the belt behind their shopping, I just start sticking my shopping on the belt a few inches behind theirs.
Most people usually then manage to put a divider on if they think they're going to pay for my shopping too!

If I'm honest, I'm usually very quick to tut and complain about people who bring their children shopping, I just think arrangements should be made for the kids to be left in a creche or looked after by someone for an hour. I suppose it's easy to say that, when in reality personal circumstances differ. I'm also stupidly impatient, and I wouldn't dream of stepping into a supermarket with a child, I would just lose my cool.
It's the parents that ignore their kids and leave them to cry, scream or generally run riot that annoy me. I've seen several parents who let their kid carry on regardless without any attempt to quieten them down. I've had a kid walk in on me in a changing room while his mother tries on clothes. No one was outside looking after him, he was just left to his own devices. I get that sometimes kids are just after the attention, but surely there's a line? You can't just ignore your child as if nothing is happening.0 -

Where was that? When I lived in Australaia, THe supermarkets were full of semi feral barefoot kids wandering around in their pjamas!
