Real Life MMD: Should I refund the postage cost?
Comments

I completely understand why you did what you did but basically you shouldn't have!
You should have just posted it to him and kept the money you made from the postage.
My boyfriend was in exactly the same situation, had paid for postage and then the item was hand delivered, and the person walked! Did he ask for the postage back? No, why? Because the item came much quiker then he expected so he was just grateful for that!
Unfortunately for you, your buyer has noticed that £5 is a rip-off for a 2mile journey and wants his money back! If I were you I would offer him half and learn a lesson!Debt owed £4000, Saved (to pay back) £300, only £3,700 to go!!
My best money saving tip: Good manners cost NOTHING! So please be nice to each other! :happylove0 -
What's up with with everybody? If you agree to buy something you always consider the postage before you agree to buy don't you?
So no you should not give any refund to this miserable sod and also i would contact e-bay and demand the removal of this negative feedback :mad:0 -
You should absolutely have refunded the postage - you didn't post it so, in effect, you did rip him off. I managed to sell to someone who lived just around the corner to me the other day and he collected his purchase - wouldn't have dared charge him to walk over to get it. No dilemma as far as I'm concerned - you are in the wrong.0

Buyer was happy when he paid for the item, I would not be bothered how it arrived as long as it arrived once I had paid for it.
As he has already left feedback I would not refund, I would just leave a reply feedback just to let people know that you hand delivered as you felt it was a safer option as you lived close by, sorry he was not happy with your personal delivery service:D0 -
P+P (postage and packaging) thats what was expected in this case, the seller chose to deliver perhaps the seller was daft not to message the buyer first before doing so to check if this was acceptable.
The buyer paid money for p&p but there was NO p&p was there? so no charge for p&p should be applied.
I do feel the buyer was unfair to leave neg feedback after all they got their item much earlier but i also feel the seller at fault and should at least refund half the p&p.
Seller be the bigger person rather than complain, offer the buyer half of the p&p back.walk away with your head up high and the ban the buyer from any more of your auctions.0 -
The buyer entered into a contract for P&P delivery which he didn't get.
You should have asked if he was happy to accept personal delivery and
offered at least half of the postage back. After all it was your choice to
hand deliver probably hoping to make more cash from the postage!
Negative feedback should not be a reason to withold some of the money
as he obviously felt very aggrieved by it all. YOU changed the contract.0 -

Wow you really can tell that most of the people on here are ebay sellers! No bias at all! lol I don't buy or sell on ebay but surely charging someone for POSTAGE and PACKAGING and not using either is wrong?!
I agree with this person, this seller is complaining because they failed to communicate with their buyer properly and is now being bitten in the a*s because of it! You can't charge someone for something they didn't ask for! Simples!Debt owed £4000, Saved (to pay back) £300, only £3,700 to go!!

I don't think you should refund the buyer - who is he anyway? VICTOR MELDREW!! For a start he was quite happy with the cost of the postage before he bid on the item. If he wasn't, he shouldn't have bid on your item. It's a well known fact that sellers do not only charge the exact price for the postage (or the stamp) as packaging, etc is incorporated into the charge too. I think Ebay should retract his negative comment and remove his account. Some people have got nothing better to do in their sad lives but nit pick. Why doesn't he get of his lazy backside and go to the shops instead!!0

The seller should absolutely not refund any postage and the buyer is totally out of order in leaving negative feedback. Has the buyer been exploited, inconvenienced or otherwise worse off than he agreed to be? No. Was the buyer happy to sign a contract whereby he understood and accepted the charge? Yes. He has absolutely no reason to complain if the seller decides to deliver in person, so long as the item is undamaged and correct. Arguably he is better off, as the seller would have delivered quicker than the mail! What a cheek!
As for the seller, he had no means of knowing in advance that the buyer would be that local; his entrepeneurial delivery was merely a windfall that took nothing from anyone. Only the Royal Mail was denied a potential revenue and they were promised nothing contractual during the transaction.0 -
I recently sold I child's musical rocket on eBay 99p with £4 p+p
It cost me £5 to post (my own fault for not weighing 1st)
Right the buyer sent me an email requesting a full refund as one light out of the 10 didn't light up ,so I asked the buyer to post back and I will give a full refund
The buyer woulnt post back as he said it wasn't worth posting so I offered to refund the sale price 99p as the buyer wouldn't post back
I knew the buyer wanted a full refund and to keep the item (£25 new in Argos)
The buyer used paypal to open a dispute which I explained I would only give a full refund on receipt of the item back.
The buyer with 12 feedbacks then told paypal be had posted back even though he had no proof of postage and paypal recommend you post back recorded delivery and forward proof of postage.
Paypal then gave the buyer a FULL refund £4.99 even though he never posted the item, when the buyer received his refund he left negative feedback
So I finished up with negative feedback no item and £10.98 down .
Just as the buyer told me to start with paypal will always agree with the buyer ,and also sellers cannot leave negative feedback for buyers so he can carryon doing this scam to who he likes.
I complained to eBay regarding this situation they sent me the buyers home phone number so I could talk to him !
eBay sellers be aware of this trick it stinks !!!!!0
