  • So if things haven't changed much since 1488 it must all be borderline acceptable then ? :p

I liked the wording on that Ballymore Eustace plaque:

Seems we've many times in more recent history got close to needing another statute to enforce authority on some of what goes on inside that ditch, never mind outside ;)

So, someone is forcing you to use RyanAir?
Can you highlight any inaccuracies in my post?

    Edit

I'm not a lawyer but the people at the OFT etc are. They have no issue with RyanAir, so by definition they are doing absolutely nothing wrong. I know you don't think so, but with respect, that's your opinion and nothing more.

The OFT and the ASA (I think that's their name) make companies withdraw TV and newspapers adverts all the time, but don't touch RyanAir, so by the judgement of the people who matter; RyanAir are fine.

Don't like their methods then use someone else.

Like many things Ryanair the EU and national enforcers begs to differ!

Article 23 of EC Regulation 1008/2008 introduced new rules relating to the transparency of air fares with effect from November 2008.

    http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2008:293:0003:0020:EN:PDF

Ryan try to get around this with liberal use of "from" and occassional tax-free fares BUT the CAA are on their case!

    See:
    http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=14&pagetype=65&appid=7&mode=detail&nid=1968

Perhaps not surprisingly Ryan, which is commited to compliance by 1 Jun 11, will be the LAST airline operating out of UK airports to comply with its legal obligations.....

Just looking for a flight today and Ryanair have added yet another compulsory charge to the booking process, £2 per person per flight for a Delay/Cancel Levy whatever that is for !!! icon8.gif

Still, as was said earlier, you add up all the charges on top of the flight cost then compare the total with easyjet etc and then balance the cost against convienience of departure airport and time of flight.

To be fair I had four return flights with Ryanair last year and most were on time, the one that wasn't arrived early but left late due to air traffic control which they have no control over.

I am sure I saw something last week that because of airlines having to recompense passengers due to late/cancelled flights etc Ryanair have taken the view that this is unfair on the airline when the cancellation is outwith their control i.e. volcanic ash, airports unable to clear snow etc. They, therefore, are adding (imposing) this charge on all bookings presumably to create a fund from which they can pay the compensation they are presently legally obliged to do.

I've not booked any flights today so Itake it that this is another addon, and unfortunately, one you cannot get out of. I take it that before you book the final price will come up so you have got the choice to pay the final price or not.

This is another example of the final price being more than that advertised.

It will be interesting if anyone has been able to book one of their £8 flights advertised today at that price, or if, in fact the cheapest you can get it is £10.

It is for Article 9 Right to Care expenses in Ec261/2004 http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32004R0261:EN:HTML

They want an extra revenue stream to cover these costs and maintain profitability.

Ryanair will still offer special offer fares and these are the ones to go for.

After my previous post I went into the Ryanair site to do a test booking on a flight advertised at £8 and found that some are available at only £5 and the delay/cancel payment is showing as zero.

So as well as adding on 'hidden' charges on some flights they are also selling flights lower than the banner price!

The intricacies of marketing, advertising and promotion!!!

I think I have come to the conclusion,by all means take heed of all the add ons, but look at the final price, and if it is what you are prepared to pay, pay it.
