Got home from Rome during the night - it was an amazing place, and I really hope that I am able to go back again. I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting a city break. We were very lucky in that on the first evening, the Pope was visiting the church next door to our hotel, so managed to catch a glimpse. I am not Catholic, but somehow, when in Rome etc......!

Moneywise, I was very pleased and surprised that prices there are pretty reasonable, when compared with other tourist places (especially when compared with ski resorts) and when compared with prices at home. So eating out, and stopping for coffees etc was never a problem moneywise at all. My budget was adhered to for all food, drink, and the entrance fees/tours to places so I was very pleased with that.

I didn't, however, budget for the amazing clothes shops, and I took advantage of some beautiful Italian clothes at very good prices and will transfer some of my bonus savings to cover it. I bought dresses, underwear, and had a wee visit to Prada for some sunglasses  Money well spent, I have to say, as they are all gorgeous and have an amazing fit, but if I return to Rome at any time, i will have another "envelope" ready for guilt free shopping.

So, all in all, an amazing hot, sunny, beautiful few days.

Back to normal now - today will be spent pottering, banking, sorting out some photos for facebook etc, and of course doing the washing.....ho hum!

Hope you have all had a good weekend x

Ooh .... genuine Prada sunglasses, bought in Rome .... I'm very impressed. Glad you had such a good time. And of course you go have a look at the Pope arriving at a church if you can, especially next door, Catholic or not! Part of European history, if nowt else :)

    Did you tan at all?

Sounds like you had an amazing time:) I am planning to go there at some point next year, so will take note of the clothes shopping savings idea. Glad to hear it isn't hugely expensive either!

Im looking into flights at the moment, did you book hotel separately or a package?

KC, yes, I did tan - we had a bit of a tanning "conflict" as I love the sun and get very little chance to actually be out in it - but my mum has had skin cancer, so covers right up, and wants (understandably) to be in the shade wherever possible.

So we were constantly looking for tables to sit at for lunch etc where she could be in the shade and I could be in the sun! We managed it most of the time, so I do have a good amount of healthy glow to my arms and shoulders, if nothing else! The temperature was between 28 and 30 degrees, so lovely and warm.

Jamie, I booked via Expedia (through quidco of course), found the hotel first, and then looked on there for appropriate flights - very easy to do, and we actually booked a 4 star hotel and flights with BA for what I considered to be a very very reasonable price.

Thanks for the info:) I have plenty of time to look around, so I am going to make sure I get the best deal possible. My friend alos wants to come with her daughter as I will be taking mine, so will be a good laugh too:)

Don't leave it too late, though Jamie - although there are hundreds of hotels, I found that the ones I wanted to look at in locations close to particular parts of town were booking up very quickly, and even though I booked my trip about 6 months ago, some of my chosen hotels were already fully booked!

Yes, it is an amazing place. Far better than I could have envisaged and yes it does knock the spots off Paris. I will definitely be going back there - even if I go back on my own, although I already seem to have promised DD that I will take her.....:rotfl:
