Beanie, I know I don't have the same issues as you do with your knees, but for almost all my life I couldn't wear shift dresses because there was always at least one dress size difference between my top half and my bottom half...often 2 size differences. I soooo wanted to wear a shift dress but couldn't ever get one to fit.
I now have a whole wardrobe of them and appreciate every single one of them
