I am new to all this.
I started my own thread here (apparently I cant link to it, oops)
Put a long story short (prob read the other thread to get a good idea). I am overweight and drink too much. After a really heavy xmas party I have decided to quit drinking. I could regularly drink 4 litres of cider a night. (bit less lately) but more on the weekends.
Couldnt face it on sat night and chose not to last night.
I am counting today as day 1 for me.
(btw.... what is all this "2AF for me pls"... or "10 for me"?)
I am new here. I apologise.
Here is your original thread mate. (Good luck)

Hi All and welcome mattjay :hello: you'll find bucket loads of support from the lovely people who post on this thread....we're all in it together!!
What we tend to do is pledge the number of 'Alcohol Free Days' (AFD's) that we hope to achieve each month - or if you prefer you can go target free -the lovely shaggy keeps a running total of our monthly achievements as and when we report them.
The equally lovely bearacus runs the 'School Night Challenge' (SNC) which is a weekly target of AFD's between Monday and Thursday...this really helps break the month down into bite sized chunks.
So for example - I was AF today so I have now notched up a total of 11 AFD's for December...and 1 AFD in this weeks SNC - I hope that makes sense
Shaggy is away for a couple of days but if you want to set yourself a target for the remaining days in December just post your target on here and she'll add you to the list when she gets back - and it's not too late to join the SNC, again just let bearacus know how many AFD's between now and Thursday that you hope to achieve.
It's great to have you with us....and I wish you loads of luck on your AF journey xxLBM Aug '07 Debt [STRIKE]£52,615[/STRIKE] DEBT FREE Aug '12 :jCap One CC £[STRIKE]5000[/STRIKE]/£0 - HSBC CC £[STRIKE]7500[/STRIKE]/£0 - HSBC Loan £[STRIKE]12,225[/STRIKE]/£0M&S CC £[STRIKE]11,500[/STRIKE]/£0 - Egg CC £[STRIKE]8750[/STRIKE]/£0 - Sains CC £[STRIKE]3000[/STRIKE]/£0HMRC £[STRIKE]3140[/STRIKE]/£0 - OD £[STRIKE]1500[/STRIKE]/£0Pay off ALL your debt by Xmas 2012 £14,128/£14,128 :j0 -
10 Af please Shaggy
Welcome aboard mattjay, its a great thread lots of support here if/when you need it. AF stands for Alcohol Free days, the lovely Shaggy runs a monthly chart where you can pledge however many AF days you would like to achieve and then 'report in' when you can.
We also have the lovely Bearacus running a School nite challenge referred to on here as SNC. It helps break down the month into more bite size chunks. Hope this explains it a bit to you, im tired so it may not make much sense! It’s not what you have in your life but who you have in your life that counts0 -
Thanks May 2013, you have explained it far better than i did, i need to go to bed! So tired. Well done on notching up another AF day xIt’s not what you have in your life but who you have in your life that counts0

Sorry to hear about your mum legs, hope she picks up quickly.
Welcome mattjay, good decision. Every AF day counts!
7AFDs for me please Shaggy.0 -
Welcome Mattjay.
I've stayed up late doing final Xmas cards. No drink tho so that's 7AFDS and 1 for the SNC. I'd like to pledge 3 SNCs this week please Bearacus only I'd like to count Friday instead of Thu if that's ok?0 -
12 AFD and 1 SNC, please. x
Hope your mum picks up legsand. Merry Christmas to you. x0 -
Just popped in to say hello to everyone and welcome to Mattjay before I scoot off to town to buy the (hopefully) last of the pressies. I've not done very well lately - good start to the month with 5 AFD's in the first 10 days then I fell off the wagon spectacularly and have had a drink every day since. Right back to the old pattern - home, wine open, aaaaahhh! Often just that one glass and never more than half a bottle so it's not that I get drunk - it's just that it's SOOO compelling. I've been feeling such a failure but decided to get past Christmas then try angain and not worry so much about it.:) Happy Christmas everyone!0

Hi Everyone and welcome Mattjay.
Had an extremely alcoholic weekend; party on Saturday night and then had my Christmas 'Open House' for the neighbours on Sunday. Most people brought bottles of wine as gifts and a fair few of them were opened.
I was however AF yesterday so that's 7 for my Dec target. Could you put me down for just 2 for the SNC please Bearacus? Yesterday was number 1. I expect to be AF today but from tomorrow I don't think I will be.0
