Blog post on Guardian website today will ring some festive bells with many of us I suspect (me included).
How to refuse a drink at Christmas
A study by the Medical Research Council has revealed that the middle-aged feel uncomfortable about turning down a drink. Here are some surefire excuses to make it a little easier...more
And off to work christmas drinks now. I'm not going to drink..I'm not going to drink..I'm not going to drink..can't even say I'm driving as I've left the bike at home today. Perhaps will use one of hte excuses from the blog...."I love drinking, but it doesn't half make me vomit."
MrsRainman I think you know he's not going to stop drinking after Christmas (or New Year, or his Birthday, or yours, or...) but I really admire your positive attitude nonetheless. You have the patience of a saint!

Hi everyone, congratulations, I've seen a lot of good stories here; well done with your works drinks Happyshopper.
I fancied a glass of wine with dinner tonight but thinking of this thread made me hold out. And I've taken your advice over the Sunday issue so I'm going to say 6 AFDs and 3 for the SNC0 -
Very quiet on here, hope everyone's behaving themselves and not having too much on a school night;) You'll be sorry in the morning!
No bells at all today although I did watch people drinking on a TV programme and thought, I'll enjoy that at the weekend.
That's me done for this week. Planned drinking over the weekend, but definitely not to hangover level.
6 AFDs and 3 for the SNC please.
Be happy!0 -
11 AFD and 3 SNC, please. x0

Hi all
I am creeping back in with my virtual tail between my legs and admitting total failure over the last few weeks or so. I have gone back to drinking EVERY DAY and I feel like shart. I have put on weight, I am depressed, by guts are in agony (medical codition exaberated by drinking too much/not looking after self) On a positive note there has been no vomiting, falling over, making fool of self so thats good but I just feel that low level sense of disgust and self loathing at my total lack of will power.
Husband is out on his works do today/tonight ( i went to one of his about 6 years ago and got absolutely wazzed and fell asleep in the pub at about 4pm) and I declined the invite and am now REALLY looking forward to putting the kids to bed and curling up in bed with a cheezy film and waking up tomorrow clear headed and HAPPY!) I have drunk my own weight in herbal tea today and my guts feel loads better. I may even do some exercise later when kids are in bed. I need to pull this back round before I get any more low.Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.

Hi all:santa2:
Sorry I haven't been around much, I'm really busy. I'm going away visiting family for a long weekend so I'll be back Tuesdayish. Keep reporting those AFDs I'll do a update as soon as I can.....
Take Care
ShaggyxWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
Reporting late for the SNC Bearacus but was AF on Tues and Thurs; that's my 3 for this week's SNC and I think 6 for the December target Shaggy. Not AF today as have already had two glasses of wine with lunch today and am expecting DS home fom uni this evening so I expect we might have a couple. I'm hoping that I will be able to be fairly moderate in my alcohol consumption this weekend. I'm finding that having an equal quantity of water when I'm drinking really helps. If I have an empty wine glass I fill it with water and sip it slowly before I refill with wine. I still drink far too much but it does slow things down.0
