Welcome jevvers. Well done on joining BEFORE we all get to drink too much over the festive period. We normally set a monthly challenge and then smaller mid-week ones (SNC) to keep us motivated. Just post what you'd like to do and the lovely Shaggy and Bearacus will do the rest! Hope you got your first AFD under your belt tonight. You're among friends here, it's so easy to drop into every night drinking.

Well done rachel on resisting the call of the bar and DH's provocation. I know you like your Tuesday nights so it's a really good acheivement.:T

2 AFDs for December and 2 for the SNC please.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

When I was updating my alcohol spreadsheet this morning I noticed this poem that I cut and pasted from this thread a little time ago. I thought it might help us get through the christmas festivties.:xmassmile

    The Don’t Quit Poem

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
    When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

  • Welcome jevvers and good luck. I'm in a similar boat - not drinking huge amounts but drinking every single day and starting earlier and earlier. These folk have helped enormously with their encouragement and their own stories. I'm having a wobbly start to Dec - lots of home/work stress and SOOO easy to turn to Mr Merlot but I've done 1 SNC this week please Bearacus making 2 AFDs this month please Shaggy
  • 3 afds for me please shaggy despite dh trying to tempt me by asking me if i'd like to share a bottle of wine. I went to zumba and then faffed around getting stuff ready for today so sat and had a chamomile tea (sp?) and watched some recorded Masterchef. Welcome jevvers! Glad to hear I'm not the only one who dresses up babies in silly christmas outfits! Loving the sound of the christmas pudding one Bearacus!

    4 Af please Shaggy

Had the day from h*** at work and didnt get home til after 7pm, i was so wound up that i decided i was just going to come in and open some wine....but i didnt...i decided to go for a bath first and then see if i still 'craved' wine which i didnt so just made a cup of tea instead.

We are preparing for up to 80 mph winds up here tmro, all local schools will be closed and all the car/rail bridges shut too so it will be a nightmare travelling anywhere tomorrow. The Met office have issued a RED warning which they rarely do, fingers crossed it wont be as bad as they predict.
