Private Tenant - Neighbour Issues

I'll get straight to the point.
We are tied into a tenancy until December but really want to move now.
This is purely down to the male in the flat above using prostitues. This is bad enough but she has drivers who wait outside for her, these men are really not very pleasent and a couple of days ago one urinated in the street!!
We also have an issue with noise from him, we hear every footstep he takes due to the laminated flooring and him being inconsiderate.

The area is one of the best in the town we live, so didn't expect to have to deal with something like this.
We have spoken to the police, landlord, letting agent and the chairman of the residents association but they are all powerless.
Any advise on where to go from here? Hate going home at the moment :(

Can you ask for a discount as there'll be less travel for the escorts? LOL.

Is your issue with him using escorts or him walking in his flat and causing noise by walking? For the former I think it's tough luck, for the latter you can contact the landlord and ask whether hard floors are permitted in the flats. I think you are merging two entirely different issues.

If you are a leaseholder you could check your own lease on whether hard floors are permitted - chances are that all the leases will be the same if it's a flat in a block.

You could post a polite note in his letterbox complaining about the impact noise from his flat and see if he responds. There may not be much that can be done about it.

I had the same noise issues and moved.

We want to move but were tied to the lease. Just looking for a way out.
  • do you know- if it was me I would just pack up and ship out. I doubt if your landlord will pursue you for outstanding rent if you have explained what the problem is and nothing is getting done.

Just because the guy upstairs walks in a noisy way? I think that might be a little foolish.

But she hasn't actually explained what the problem is. And that is the problem.

Who her neighbour sees isn't really any of her business is it?

And as for walking impact noise, surely that's an issue for the landlord of the block isn't it?

Do either of those issues entitle her to do a runner? No, I don't think so either.

He is using prostitutes!!! he a man in his late 60's early 70's and he pays young girls in there late teens early 20's to have sex with him.
He obviously has no respect for women!!
I don't feel safe because not only is a pervert living above me but the prostitutes "driver" ie pimp, thug!! waits outside the block of flats for her.
The noise is a seperate issue but also a major one that is a constant reminder that he is there above us, so any chance of having a normal evening trying to switch off from this pervert is impossible!!

I could write him a note but I don't want him talking to me, or apologising when he gets it,because I won't be able to not say anything about the prostitutes and then he won't keep the noise down after he's been given a piece of my mind.

Just want to move out. Will check with the resident association about hard floors in flats though, didn't know they might not be permitted.

guy is hardly a pervert, just has a healthy sexual appetite. Hope i'm like that at his age. I dont think its a case that he has no respect for women, probably more of a case he is realistic about his age and condition he is in.

Not very nice to say he's a pervert because he hires prostitutes.

I lived in a flat under a prostitute before, didnt bother me.

you need to be careful about what your saying about this guy and the the terminology you are using or otherwise could end up on the wrong side of a slander lawsuit.
