Firefox 4 - I desperately want back to my previous version, please.

I have just noticed that Google Maps doesn't seem to function with FF4, it will not expand, it is fine with Google Chrome.
google maps loads and renders fine for me, BUT using it is painfully slow esp in satalite view, moving and panning around takes ages to load in huge blocks, whereas IE9 loads the new map tiles in milliseconds.
this also happened in 3.6.x and I had hoped FF4 would have fixed it (but I have a feeling it is googles problem as 2 other (completely seperate) computers have the exact same problem only with FF)0 -

I have now dumped FF 4, gone back to FF3.6, it works fine now.
I think that FF have jumped the gun with this release.0 -

It should work properly on all configurations though, like Windows 7 for example.
Unless I have something seriously wrong with my PC, it doesn't.
I will admit that I have gone searching for the sites that cause the memory problems, and so I'm perhaps more aware of it than many due to following http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2115677&sid=f7accb4717477f52ae25d0a4b58db355.
I could, perhaps, have used it day to day for weeks without trouble, then suddenly found one of these troublesome sites, with the result that my PC would become very slow or unresponsive.
Would I have realised why? Maybe, maybe not.
It's a huge flaw in my opinion, which Mozilla should have sorted long before release. It's such a shame because I would be using it now if it were not for this.
All loaded without issue and so far (i.e. during the last 60 minutes or so) have displayed no evidence of memory leakage. Current mem. usage for FF4 is at 21% (402.1Mb) which I would not describe as excessive given the content of the sites in question and is not otherwise hampering the operation of the machine. Even adding the stephenhogland site seems to make little difference (it adds a further 20meg - so 1%). To this you'd need to add a further almost rock-solid consistent 17.4Mb (call it another 1% for the plug-in container). So a total of 23% - ~460Mb
There is certainly no evidence of memory leakage and as I speak mem.usage has actually dropped to 435.6Mb and drops almost immediately - within a seocnd or two - if I exit one or other of the tabs.
I'll run up a test on my laptop a bit later (Ubuntu 10.04) on which I have Opera and Midori installed and see how they compare usage-wise. I will also give my office desktop (XP) a run up too.My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).

Thanks. That's very interesting.
I'm running it in Windows 7 64 bit and the stephenhogland site brings it to a virtual standstill if I remember correctly. I'll check the numbers again when I get a chance.
I look forward to your next tests.
Edit
With just that one tab open FF4 is using 770MB for me. Not quite high enough to slow it down, but very close.
Mapcrunch, however, does cripple it. I'm not going to test it again, but it was way over 800Mb, again just with that one tab open.0 -
Wish you would test talk-talk webmail. Its impossible to get into with firefox 4. I've gone back to 3.xxx as well much better.0

I have seen reports of online banking, the National lottery and Tesco secure not working. Whether they are the same problem as yours, I don't know.
This version of FF has some weird issues indeed. I think you are better of using the old version for a short while hopefully.
Sorry I can't be any more help.0 -
I'm afraid I agree - I'm trying to like it but, so far, no real success.

Crimson,
I'm sorry. We seem to have hijacked your thread.
I hope you don't mind and I hope we all understand, a little bit better, what FF has become at the end of it.0 -
... and folks. do give the brilliant Opera 11 a try
