Crimson, I had the same problem. But if you press ALT you will get the menu bar up temporarily. Go to View at the top of the page, click on menu bar and you wil have all your usual stuff back :) permanently (I take it you missed File, Edit View and so on?)

I've reset everything so it looks good again but there's one thing I can't find. The page forward and backward used to have a little arrow so you could jump a few pages back instead of one at a time, is this available anywhere in settings?

You can this back by installing this add-on

I'm another one who ditched Firefox 4 in favour of the old version. I just hate the new look. I suppose I should have persevered but none of my favourite themes work with it.
Only problem is that the old version will only be supported till mid 2011.
I might go back to Opera at this rate.

Yes, hethmar, that's exactly what I miss - File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools and Help across the top and I didn't like the square box on the left (top) and on the right (top.)

    Thank you.

press the f10 button on top of your keyboard and they will appear , then you can click view >toolbars >menu bar and it will stay in place
  • Hi,

any idea how I can stop FF4 opening so many new tabs?

For instance, to get to this thread to post my question, I went to forums, techie stuff, missed the thread on page one, so went to page two and three, then back to one, another 3 tabs open, now 6, I hit the reply button to post question, another tab, and when I hit submit it'll be another, so that'll be 8 open tabs.

I tried the suggestions on FF help this morning, but no good.

    Thanks for any help.

Does all that in 1 tab for me.
The only thing that does it is CTRL+click or right clicking the page number etc.
It might be worth checking you haven't got "sticky keys" switched on. Press shift 5 times.
Other than that, not a clue, sorry.

    Adding my two-cents...

Been a user of FF since FF2, and have been using FF4 for a few days on both Win7 and Linux Mint. Here's my likes & dislikes:

    Likes:
Orange Firefox button - less text clutter across the screen.
Pin to App Tab - By far the best new feature. Love having certain sites open constantly, and by pinning them it creates a smaller tab that remains open in the background.
Tab grouping - but why oh why is this so hidden!?! This was supposed to be a huge new feature, but I had to customise the menu to add a button to access this feature. Useful when there are lots of "common theme" tabs to manage
Search field at top right remains! - YAY!

    Dislikes:
It seems/feels a bit slower than 3.6. I haven't clocked it, just a general feeling on day-to-day usage.
The "list all tabs" and "x" button on the top right, by the minimise button. What's this for/do? I use tab mix plus, so how to get rid of these buttons?
Home button moved to the right. Who's bright idea was this? Now moved to it's proper position by the fwd/back arrows.

Overall I won't be rolling back. Unfortunately FF4 needs some tweaking out-of-the-box, but it's a slicker interface with some good upgrades.

    Miles.

On a lighter note, trivial even, I've noticed the number of themes available for FF4 is growing rapidly.
If you don't like the default look you might find something here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/themes/?page=1 :D

    I've gone back to 3.6 after trying FF4. Didn't like 4 at all !
