Hello - if anyone can advise me how to get back from Firefox 4 to my previous version (?3.6.16) I shall be very grateful indeed. I clicked to 'upgrade' not realizing how unfamiliar and difficult it would be to adapt to the new version and its layout. I can't get my head round it at all and I would love to get back to the version I know.
Any advice would be really appreciated to get me out of Firefox Four. I think it is called the tool bar or the task bar but it has all changed (it used to run across the top of my screen and I could just click on what I needed with ease - eg the bookmarks or to close a tab etc.) and I struggle with it now. I can't find the link I need easily and this new 'upgrade' just isn't for me. I don't seem able to navigate away from a page then back again without starting at square one. It worries me because sometimes I have 'logged in' to a page then I lose the page without logging out.
I don't have enough expertise to work with it and make it right for me. Any comments, advice (in favour of Firefox 4 or otherwise) will be great. For now I really would be glad to get back to where I was before I 'upgraded' to Firefox 4 - I just don't know how to do it and I'm concerned in case I lose my familiar bookmarks etc.:(
Thank you
Crimson

You can try downloading the 3.x version from here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
I'm not sure how FF4 will handle the 3.x installation (downgrade), if it will happily roll back and maintain all your settings etc... but I'd recommend saving your bookmarks: from the menu "bookmarks" >
"show all bookmarks" > "import and backup" > "backup"0 -
I wouldnt really downgrade from 4 to 3.x.x, mainly because firefox 4 is far more future proof like it includes HTML5 support.
so instead of downgrading I would just make this new one 'look' like the old one.
first off read this http://uk.lifehacker.com/5784783/how-to-fix-annoyances-with-firefox-4s-new-look
(first point of call is right click next to the address bar and select 'menu bar' then do the same and untick 'tabs on top') then right click for a third time and select 'Customise...' then move everything around exactly where you want them (if there is something you dont want ie the bookmark button, just drag the button into the into the customise window that opened)
if you want to know how to get the 'new tab' button watch this vid
hay presto you have it looking exactly like 3.x.x but with all the functionality of 40 -
If you have internet explorer as well then uninstall Firefox go to cnet and download the original Firefox from there.I tried FF4 and didn't like it0

You can set the toolbars back to the old way using the options in the preferences or view menu.0

I would recommend backing up your Firefox profile before you do anything.
Instructions are here:-http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20your%20information
You can then attempt to get back to 3.6, or try anything you like, safe in the knowledge that all your bookmarks etc. are stored safely away.
You will have to get used to Firefox 4, or choose another browser, sooner or later though. They will eventually stop supporting 3.6.0 -
when you uninstall FF4 it will say do you want to delete your settings etc, select no and all your bookmarks etc will be saved0

Thank you Jayme1 - If I have the confidence this sounds like a good way forward.

Thank you everyone - not one criticism (for my lack of expertise) and loads of helpful support and information. It is really very much appreciated.
