Having lodgers, or foreign students is ok if you don't rent. Many options for me, including volunteering as a night stop for young people is out of the questions because I rent. I can't do parties either as literally no room to swing a cat!0

We often stay in youth hostels and NEVER have we had a room with a double bed and NEVER is the bed ready made up for you, there is always a sealed bag of bedding waiting for you to DIY. Nothing wrong in any of that - it is one reason why they are cheap places to stay, but there is everything wrong in this programmes inaccurate portrait!
Hi my friend got married in that village in 2002 she hired the whloe hostel for us all for the weekend it was all done when we got there - I didnt think it looked as good in the programe as it actually was I had a proper en-suite in my roomDMP 2021-2024: £30,668 £0 🥳

my MIL has always had lodgers, even when her children were young. It's not something that appeals to me and she treats them so well that I'm sure they end up costing her money for food, electricity etc!
But I think if we were really desperate for money it would be an option - and using loft space or your driveway would be a really easy way to get a little extra cash.
I would never do Body Shop/Vie/Jamie at Home parties though! I can't stand things that are based on making money out of friends. When ever I've gone to one I've spent the whole time working out what the cheapest thing is that I can get away with buying! I'd rather just give my friend a tenner and be done with it!Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

LOL it's not just me then. I HATE being asked to one of these parties. Hasn't happened for a long time TBH, but it was something I dreaded, I tried to come up with an excuse usually, but more than once I just pleaded broke.

I hate them too. Our church fund raising committee are very fond of them as a money raiser for church so there are at least two a year in the church hall.I usually make an excuse and give a donation to the funds-I'd rather do that than buy stuff that I don't want.0

I stayed in Hartington Youth Hostel in December, and wrote a blog post about it, I bet that's where they got the idea from. It is actually a beautiful building. I paid £16 for two nights. I don't know why the couple didn't eat there, the food would have been a lot better than those crappy pizzas. Or even go self catering, fantastic food and cheaper still. It was all set up, you are not allowed to take your own alcohol into the hostel, and you have to make your own bed up with the linen they provide.
