re the student lodgers my elder brother used to have student lodgers in his house in Oxford and my niece married one of them and has lived out in Mexico with her Oh ( a lawyer) and two sons since 1974 so the lodger became his son-in-law

I'm just watching this on 4OD (I'm such as Superscrimper, I don't have a TV licence!).
I was hoping someone would point out to FreshMan (as he shall now be called) that fruit and veg sits in a supermarket for ages and before that, it's sat in cold storage. Unless he grows his own and it's straight out of the ground, there's really no guarantee of freshness. The stuff he's buying on Wednesday is probably from the same batch as what he bought on Monday.MFW 2019 #61: £13,936.60/£20,0000 -
I had to switch channels last night after 20 minutes of this programme. I found it an absolute insult to people who have GOT to spend no more than £50 a week on food , or in very many cases, a lot less. Shows like this ought to take a family on a budget , and help them get the best out of their money, not idiots with plenty of money who choose to waste it. Like the family featured a few weeks ago who spend ridiculous amounts on holidays, and they showed them a cheaper way to do it (house sitting I think?). Again, take a family who haven't had a holiday, help them to budget and save gradually, and show them how it can be done. I think they'd be way more grateful than the delusional moron shown last night. What an utter snob. Didn't deserve any air time what so ever.
And making the lipgloss....who thinks up this carp? How embarrassing!0 -
That cardi was a bit  To be fair though all the other clothes were awful too.
However, it's brilliant that the girls were so enthused about learning a new skill and saving money at the same time.
I also have to say that the man needed to get out of the kitchen. Lord knows, I'd have banned him long ago :A Just why are brands better? The sauce looked like slop being emptied out of the jars!
Re bechamel-gate: I still maintain that at the very least basic cooking classes should be mandatory for those who can't or who haven't been taught elsewhere.0 -
My daughter rang me in the middle of the programme and said "That bloke is a real d*****head!" She is only 25 but very super scrimper, and she can cook! She spends no more than £150 for three of them a month, aand they eat very well!I Believe in saving money!!!:T
A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!0 -

Thank goodness for hand blenders. Saved many a sauce when I have been a bit slap dash in my sauce making. :rotfl:Put the kettle on.0 -
Well for someone exalting the virtues of fresh food. He didn't
look very fit on it.
Plus it didn't look like the huge budget extended to purchasing shampoo0 -
made her own lipgloss last year....0

my thoughts exactly!I agree with everyone else, I so wou'dve thrown him out for being such a moron and throwing good food down the drain! He's not the main breadwinner but NEEDS branded products!
