  • I too found that man sooo irritating and OMG £8.99 for a basic spag bog, she did not even add any onions, mushrooms peppers etc  thats probably why he looked a bit pastie, living on high sugar, high fat convenience food that costs the earth instead of nutrious meals that cost pence. How can you have principles about brand names when you are having to borrow off family every month just to eat, appauling!

Last night's programme was a joke!

That cardi.. it was so bad and made me laugh so hard! Why on earth didn't she just shorten the sleeves instead of stitching on those dodgy patches. What did she say about it being a designer look? More like designer tramp! And didn't the other one do well stitching back on a few beads that had come loose, wow amazing!

Don't get me started on the bossy overbearing lizard lover with 90's throwback hair. He deserved a slap with a tin of basics beans. In his opinion 'cooking from scratch' is for people who like the taste of rejected food? Yum yum bolognese made with dolmio... I couldn't think of anything worse. I was cringing when I saw them preparing a the 3 course meal. The bechamel sauce looked like it had 'issues'. Those poor dinner guests, mind the family will have saved money in the long run because undoubtebly the guests won't want to come back for a meal in the future! And what was it with his hairband? (I think he may have been going bald and was doing a bit of superscrimping on the quiet by using that head band instead of buying a toupee!)

And that mechanic bloke with the safety pin... surely anyone with an ounce of common sense would attempt to unblock it themselves, surely?

And Mrs M on the train did you notice when she knelt down to talk to the 3 passengers she blocked the aisle and there were people waiting to get past. I'm not the slimmest but I was worried she may get stuck. But phew she managed up (or bad luck depending how cruel you are?). But the advice about buying tickets surely most people know... again nothing new.

Lipgloss???? ARE YOU BEING SERIOUS? That's not superscrimping. How much for all the ingredients, a lipstick and those little pots? Just buy a lipgloss, so much cheaper.

Boot polish on your car? Mmmm lovely especially if you're wearing light clothes and you end up brushing up against your door and getting it all over your clothes.

The production team need to read this thread and take on som e of the ideas on here.

I agree everything is so shoddy. If you weren't an economiser then this programme would just tick every stereotyped box. You don't need to lose style to economise. That cardie was a joke, who whould wear that? When they make cushion covers or anything the fabric is hideous or made up of 4 different types that don't go at all.

Correct me if I am wrong, but bath bombs are made with citric acid - wouldn't it have looked better if she had made full size ones and put them in a wicker basket and covered in cellophane.

Also when Mrs Moneypenny did not know about 3 year rail cards - I bet no one would catch Martin out like that _ Yep sure enough he mentions them in his guide!

The programme annoys me no end - even when you see Mrs Moneypenny strutting about, most of that is filmed in Brindleyplace in Birmingham which is quite swanky.

The man irritated me no end - even when he said that his flippin lizard had to have best lettuce as opposed to veg peelings...I started to wonder what the lizard tasted like:rotfl:

I rarely use bottled sauce - the only time I use it is when mum buys it the rest of the time I make from scratch. I would love to be able to spend £50 a week on food - I think I manage to get away with spending about £15 at most and I eat very well for that - hardly any food gets chucked out. I rarely buy veg in the supermarket preferring to use a greengrocers so that I can buy what I want in the quantities I want. I wonder what the chap would have done if he was faced with a sprout top? A sprout top from my local greengrocers would cost about 80p and I would get about 2lb of sprouts off it plus the cabbage bit on the top - I stand it in water to keep it going as well.

Did you notice that when they made the lasagne that they failed to remove the paper off the bottom of the mince and it got mixed in with it all in the pot?

As for the car - I always keep a dressmaking pin (with the glass bobble on the end) in the car and regularly clean out my washing jets and adjust them so that they hit the screen as opposed to directing the water over the top of my car.

The dressmaking things are annoying too - where do they find these people?
  • think its been said before but these progs aren't really aimed at people like us . That said I do think they miss opportunities to teach good habits . Take the spag bol. Didn't she use 2 packs of mince beef (400g per pack) I suppose she thought one pack was not enough for 4 persons (probably right) but surely 800g of meat between 2 adults and 2 kids is too much!. It would have been more MS to go to a local butcher and buy enough for the meal, say 500g. Or buy enough to make a batch to freeze thereby economizing on gas/electric not to mention time
  • One question I have is the family in this weeks show, she was a dental technician and he was a part time teaching assistant - how on earth did they afford that house, car and all that money on groceries?
  • I did wonder that too

If the numbers don't appear to add up, it's usually because they don't and the people are in massive debt! Although it's always possible they had income from other means, e.g. inheritance. My inlaws have a big house that's worth WAY more than they can afford on paper, simply because my FIL inherited his parent's house which was only average when they bought it, but worth a small fortune (in Greater London) by the time they died.

I gave up watching this a few weeks ago (I think when they gave a tip along the lines of "don't buy a new washing machine because your current one smells" - such a stupid tip, put me off!) and it sounds like I haven't missed much.

I got the impression the house was rented but I may be wrong. It seemed to be lacking in personal touches such as pots and baskets outside and there was nothing on the walls. The car would be a car loan too.

I didnt like last nights episode either. I don't think they deserved to be helped and I would have preferred to have seen a family who genuinely wanted help rather than a pair of selfish morons. You just know they'll still be spending money they don't have and trying to live a lifestyle they can't afford.
