I use Sky because I want to get regional BBC programmes, not just the default which for me is London. Specifically I want BBC South. I thought I could get regional BBC channels on Freesat, but it seems not; my daughter said I could get them on my computer, the Richer Sounds assistant thought I would get them on iPlayer. These didn't work either; even though I entered a Southampton postcode I couldn't get BBC South live, only delayed. Has anyone else got any ideas? I'd love to cancel the Sky subscription, but, so far, it's the only way I can get the regional channels as they are being broadcast.

you can use the Humax as a standard sat stb and tune in the channels manually using these settings:

Using the Humax Freesat box you should be able to get all the regional variations regardless of the postcode you entered. All that does is set the BBC1/ITV1 defaults to your local area. The other BBC/ITV regional stations should appear much further down in the EPG listings, channel 961 for BBC South.

I can get all the regional variations on my Humax Freesat HD box.

I ditched Sky a year ago for this box and it has been brilliant. It was a breeze to set up and love the facility to record on HD.

I have my Sky+ Box in the living room but also watch and control the Sky+ from the bedroom using the Sky Link magic eye.
Could I do the same with the Humax ?

I've got the regional BBC channels on my Humax. It picked them up automatically. No manual tuning required.

With the Humax Freesat PVR, if you have a twin feed from the dish you can record two channels simultaneously. This is best used if the TV is not otherwise in use as it restricts other channels you can view.

Just like Sky, you can get all the BBC regional channels, as has been advised above. They're in the 900s. 101 is set to your local broadcast by the postcode you enter at setup. Enter whatever postcode you like. Sets the ITV region too.
  • Box arrived in the time slot they said, have not unpacked it yet, will do so before chappie comes to re-fit the dish, I am gaing to have 3 feeds fitted 2 to the humax box and one into the kitchen so I can use the old sky box on that TV I presume you do not have to have the telephone point to use the box when you no longer use the card????? I just want to be able to get the noemal channels using the box, so OH can watch the news etc when he is having his meals. We eat in the kitchen.

I would fit a dual feed (shotgun cable) to both locations-the cost difference is a few pounds on the cabling cost.
No phone connection is required by Sky after the first 12m in contract.
