From reading reviews, you plug in the HDMI cable into your TV, plug the box into the wall and switch it on. It scans for channels automatically, once that is done you're ready to watch telly.
I'm in the market for a Freeview HDR, so I've been looking around the internet. I have a communal satellite dish which doesn't have 2 feeds, so Freeview HDR is the only way to go for me really.
Fed up of Sky.0 -

Fed up of Sky.
The Humax Freeview HD PVR is fantastic.
We have it as a back up to record BBC 1, ITV, Channel 4 in HD and it has loads more space than our Sky box and features Sky does not have (eg suggesting other programmes you might want to record when setting up a recording and a button press to zap ad breaks).
Very easy to set up as well.
I am delighted we went for it.0 -
We don't get Freeview HD until 2012 (Blue Bell Hill transmitter) lol0

They are easy to setup and use. Humax seems to be getting a good reputation for reliability too.
If you want to be sure of having the capability to record one channel while watching another, you will need a twin feed from the dish. However, you can get by with a single feed and a link on the PVR taking the output from the first receiver into the input of the second. Apparently it works for about 50% of the channels. I know someone who runs one on a single feed and has no problem as he primarily uses it to catch programmes when he's not there to watch the TV.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Humax freesat HD are very good, I have one connected to an old sky dish. You can pick uo a grade A from humaxdirect.co.uk fully guaranteed and save a few quid like me.
Csarina I'm assuming as you've moved that you've tried actually retuning the tv whilst connected to the aerial at your new place? Could be pointed at a different transmitter now and channels are on different frequencies there.
Was it you posting over on greenliving about your stove install, I seem to remember after it was all fitted you had to move out because of end of lease?0 -
Lots of different things being discussed here, freeview, freesat aerials and dishes.
Taking the OPs question of setting up the freesat stb, you will of course need to install a dish, this can be done for you for around £100 with the twin feed required, I wouldnt bother taking your old dish with you they are not much.
If you are going to install your own you can use this website to get the rough directions required for 28.2E, I wouldn't bother without a proper meter though.

The Humax Feesat HDR is brilliant.
Way better than a sky box, better functions, better picture and it basically sets itself up off your postcode.
I got the 500gb recorder one last week and wish I'd fired off sky much sooner.0 -
Very easy to set up. You're moving house and taking the dish with you. If you had Sky+ it'll be a Quad LNB, run 4 cables off that, and run 2 of them into the living room (the other 2 can go wherever you like, but you might as well connect them to the dish now and leave them in the roofspace.
The dish points the same way as for sky, and you put the 2 sat cables into the back of the Humax the same as Sky. Add power and an HDMI cable and that's it. Guide is easy to use, recorded programmes are easy to find and scan through, does series link etc.0 -
I have ordered a grade A box from Humax, it should be delivered timorrow. I have arranged to have our sky dish moved, its only 12 months old, that is being done on Tuesday.
Regarding the aerial I tried retuning the TV but could get no reception at all. Mysterons, yes it was us who had a new stove fitted in the cottage. We terminated the lease not the other way round. I am pleased to say it looks as though we will get some of the cost of installing it back........how much I really do not know will have to wait and see. I plan to have a feed run into the kitchen as well so we can use the TV in there.0 -
I use Sky because I want to get regional BBC programmes, not just the default which for me is London. Specifically I want BBC South. I thought I could get regional BBC channels on Freesat, but it seems not; my daughter said I could get them on my computer, the Richer Sounds assistant thought I would get them on iPlayer. These didn't work either; even though I entered a Southampton postcode I couldn't get BBC South live, only delayed. Has anyone else got any ideas? I'd love to cancel the Sky subscription, but, so far, it's the only way I can get the regional channels as they are being broadcast.0
