If we reduce petrol to the american price, would you rather pay the tax elsewhere, or would you like their healthcare and retirement plans too. I assume you're also happy to increase the pay of all our councillors, MP's etc to a similar level to theirs as well?
Oh and their industry bank handers / lobbying?
In case people didn't know he current salary of a John Doe congressman is about £107,000. The current salary of a Joe Bloggs MP is £65,000.
Personally I have no problems with fuel duty. I chose to apply for my current job, I chose where I was going to live, if I happened to have chosen to live 70 miles away from where I work then it's my problem (I haven't by the way). However, I do think that something needs to be done for the haulage industry though."One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0 -

News reports on tax evasion show that as much money is lost through tax evasion as fuel duty rakes in. My suggestion, enforce the taxation already there by law.
I'm sure if you tell them how, they would try to.
They may not reduce petrol duty, but the rest of us would be grateful.0 -

North sea oil alone is estimated to have another 50 years left at it's current rate of depletion.
It's like any product really, the less there is, the more it's worth.
Makes perfect business sense to claim it's running out
Do a search for "Abiotic Oil", apparently oil may not be a fossil fuel at all but a natural product created in the earth's mantle!!0
